Afternoon guys and gals!

1973 dodge dart custom, factory headlights/firing.

so in the process of upgrading all around, I am going to upgrade my headlamps (they need replaced either way).

What aftermarket led ornotherwise very bright lights or kits have you had success with? I am fine if minor reworking is necessary, and wouldn’t mind have the “halo/ring” colored type ones as an option. There’s just so many options out there and I know a lot are trash, so wanted to ask those that have upgraded before.

Thanks again!

If you're just looking for a functional upgrade at a very reasonable price, try asking your local Toyota dealership for part 81110-60P70. It's an upgrade kit they offer for older Landcruisers. If that's not your favorite, check with Slant Six Dan - he's a rare example of a lighting industry insider who can explain what makes good lighting in plain English and isn't afraid to name names.

Please. please, please do not become a part of the growing problem of overly bright lights that blind oncoming traffic. REALLY bright lights sound great when you are on a dark rainy road by yourself, but are patentedly unsafe when they keep oncoming traffic from seeing clearly.

There are direct replacement high/low bulbs with halogen brights that light things up nicely with dimmer low beams that are safe. They require no extensive relays and rewiring.

Thanks for your consideration.

Absolutely nothing wrong with relays so the headlights get alternator voltage. Those, along with a good H-4 conversion, properly aimed will light the road very well and not blind oncoming traffic.

I got the Toyota headlights and the slant six Dan kit. It's amazing and I'm not blinding anyone in my low old car. I still get blinded by everyone else on the road.

I'm not sure the Toyota kit is available any longer, last time I searched the number always came back as "currently unavailable". Maybe someone has one on the shelf, but I think that's going to be it.
It's a shame- it was a nice kit, and dirt cheap.

I searched the number and found a few. Mostly on eBay. So are yall saying that kit plus a relay kit is better than or at least equal to an LED kit?

The rake stance of my dart will almost guarantee I’m not blinding anyone, but the factory headlights, even brand new ones, were so poor, that my 07 rams “driving” lights lit up the road better than them. So I’m looking for improved visibility. I live in the city but a lot of my “test and tube” areas are wooded areas. So deer are a real possibility I want to be better aware of visibility wise.

I see....a relay kit in your future!

The Toyota kit IS a relay and headlight kit.
I don't think you'd see any practical improvement with most LED kits over the H4s other than to be able to say "I've got LEDs".

Yeah. Unless you spend like 250 bucks A PIECE on LEDs and THEN you may still get some junk.

H4s on one car with relays, excellent.

Sylvania somethings on another, terrible.

Wagners on my Valiant, pic below, awesome - but here's the catch, I put a ground hub next to the battery, pigtail from the neg battery cable to the hub. Ditched the headlight grounds to the body, ran new wire to the hub, they're effing bright as heck now.
Same with parking lights, tail lights, reverse lights, never had regular headlights so bright.
