Let's see those shops

-
My wife calls it the "garage mahal", I built it in 2013 when we bought this house, 24x30 with a 10 ft ceiling. I had planned to insulate it, but ran short of money and was seriously injured just after it was fully closed in, but didn't have electrical yet, and spent 50 weeks off work.
Now I don't do anything out there during the winter unless it's absolutely necessary, so insulation is not a priority. In a few weeks time I will have to get it reorganized to make room to get at least one more vehicle in.

I have a couple. My attached garage now serves as my shop, the barn with the blacktop driveways was my shop at my MIL’s house until we sold it last year, and the one with the GTX is my storage barn where I keep my running cars.

I’m getting close to finishing my 24’ x 30’ it’s not big enough but it’s all I had room for. This picture was taken yesterday trimming out the garage door. I need to get a 9’x16’ door and install a side entry door 80”x36”. It took me almost 4yrs building this damn thing off and on but almost done. I did everything myself except the concrete.

Here's a shot of the outside from a couple of years ago.

But you ain't gettin' to see the inside right now.
After rollin' 3 projects out of there in rapid (?) succession this year, it's an unmitigated disaster inside. I'll need to get FEMA on the job to get it cleaned up this winter.
What is in the "silo"? Great looking building!

Here's my shop.

I'm in one of those transition phases in life right now. I put my life and career on hold and moved halfway across the country to New York to help take car of my elderly parents. So half of my collection is in Colorado, and I bought a second house in New York only to store more collection cars. I only have about 12 cars now (exotics, muscle, rare cars). But the plan is to eventually buy one house in Colorado (maybe Colorado, not sure, but definetely not New York) and build a 80x80 garage and put all the cars together. With the rent I'm paying every month to store them in Colorado, a new 80x80 garage will be more affordable.

It's a great feeling when you have done the work yourself, not much different from building your own car. I built the majority of my garage as well, had some help from my wife and my buddy. The only parts that I didn't do were the concrete floor and the stucco. Framing, sheeting, roofing and electrical was all done by us. I worked for an overhead door company at the time and got a smokin deal on the 8x16 insulated door and operator, installed myself. I sketched out the design of the trusses to provide a storage space that runs the length of the building, 8 ft wide and 2 1/2 ft high. I wanted to go high enough for a full lift hoist, but city zoning restrictions have it limited to 14 ft 6 inches.

My shop main 42x96 on lower left is my unfinished paint booth. Lower right is my area for rebuilding and larger shop tools and there’s the unfinished bathroom. Upper mezzanine is 1000 sq storage for all the car parts for that sum day project.

I'm still working on my shop, 50x72 with 14' ceilings, 12x12 overhead doors. Just had the 6" floor poured this summer with in floor radiant heat. I also have a 2 car attached.

Lower level of the silo is kind of an office/library area with a desk, bookshelves, filing cabinets and a beer fridge; upper level (connected by a semi-circular stairway) is just an open area with some stools and a side table for sitting and drinking and gawking at the neighbor's wife sun tanning in the backyard... also accesses the loft storage area.

Same size as mine. It needs to be twice what it is.

Only 23x23, with 8' 4" ceilings, but property is at a premium here in North Eastern NJ. The entire property is 75x136. I am grateful for what I have and more importantly, what is inside. Raising the roof 6' would make room for a lift. We shall see.
