Post a picture of the pin here after you get it out. Always wondered wht it had the flats.
Come on down and lets drop the motor and you can change the heads! No way to get them while it is in and will not come out upwards! Dam RB in a A body!now send me pics of your 440 so i can help you fix the head gasket.. poke poke

wtf.. the motor wont come out the top at all? that's fucked up
Cant get the headers off at all unless it is dropped. Thats why it is taking so long.

I got theses marks on the carrier.. is is not good for me. I found online that the pinion may be not fully seated.. but i had no mouvment at all, and my preload is 20 inch pound.
I made a mistake too i reused the old crush sleeve... do you really think i should remove it and put the new one ?
Another question : after crushing the sleeve, manual say to tighten the pinion nut at 210 pound, but will it not crush the sleeve more ?

Interesting, so it also looks Tapered? And they milled the middle out to let the axels in? If you can find one locally cheap I would change it out personally. But really not critical just holds the spider gears in alignment and also the axels in. So basically turn it 1/4 and they should be able to take the clips out?
You are right you have to turn 1/4 for each shaft to take the c clip out. It goes well on left side but ride side was hard because this is very tight. I had a wiggle it for a long time to get it out.

Glad you got it apart. I'm sorry I missed the tag from @halifaxhops. I'm not getting notifications lately. That pin might have not been modified. Although I've never seen an 8.25 like that from the factory, it's certainly possible. GM used cross pins like that in a lot of their cars light and medium duty trucks. Remove the cross pin bolt, turn the cross pin to line up the groove, get the c clip out and so on. I was never a fan of c-clips. People have had the button on the end of the axle break off and lose the axle...although I've never seen it happen, I'm sure it has.
