Well she is finally here.

So should i not send it back?
All info on engine, transmission, brakes, chassis is all the same as Valiant. Like torques specs. Some small differences in electrical wiring diagram mostly because of the Rallye dash, and a few Barracuda specific items. Most things you work on are same as Valiant.

Yeah the heads are 318.

It came with a slant 6? Or straight, either way, i think the guy my brother bought it from put the 318 in it. Supposedly this dude worked at the dodge dealership where the car was traded into by the original owner. He got it, then sold to my brother in like 89 or 90.

I know this may be flogging a dead horse but, since the current 318 was installed by a Dodge dealership dude, there may have been significant changes/additions/improvements to it already and you won't know until you fire it up. How close are you to trying to run it?

Im a shove into the garage and hooking up the hoist away from starting it.i want to break it down and rebuild it. I didnt see a point in starting it first.

I just don’t understand the reasoning here. Just me I guess.. your gonna fix what you dont know your fixing?

Not knowing the mileage of the engine, just knowing that is was running when the wiring melted, i planned on at least new rings and bearings, if the rest is good, prob just rebuild as is. I have the advantage of knowing it ran when parked, and where it has been the last 30 years. To me running it b4 seemed like a waste of time. There is no way i would not tear it apart, so i didnt/dont see the point of trying to run it first.

I am not a classic car aficionado, i know hondas and bmws.

So if this was slash is a grave error, let me know.
Technically all i would have to do to try i guess is put the valve cover back on and hook up a bat and get some plug wires.

My question to you would be, if you believe the rings and bearings are in need of replacing, what would it hurt to run it first? You have nothing to loose, and literally thousands to gain. The burning wire had zero to do with the engine running or not running. Mopars and burnt wire are a given. These engines are somewhat bullet proof if maintained to any degree. Rings will come back around, bearings are usually pretty resilient. If a mopar guy installed this engine, I would put my money on it being a runnable engine. Then all you need to do is drop a performer intake and a reliable 4 bbl. Put your money on interior, body, brakes, cooling system, ext. and other pressing issues. Like one of the other guys said, “ you do you” but the majority here are totally in favor of running this engine before you decide to tear it down. I think it would be advice well taken.. worse scenario, your out a days work and you now have gained some knowledge of what needs to be done. ( or does not need to be done) good luck.

Ok ok, peer pressure works. just to be clear, i dont have a carb, so squirt some gas in the intake manifold and crank away?

Haha, um no. You are going to need a carb . It looked like the intake was a 4bbl intake. ( it was hard to see under the rag) get a carb you plan on using on the engine. My recommendation would be an edelbrock 600 or max. 650. Squirt some tranny fluid or bp blaster into the spark plug holes. Let sit for a while or overnight. If you can get a socket on the front pully, turn it over by hand. Once to have established it is not seized, put a strong battery on it and turn it over several times to blow out the oil w spark plug holes… install your carb. I would hook up fuel line from fuel pump and then use a boat tank to connect to fuel pump so you know your gettibg clean gas fill your carb bowl with fuel. Also spark needs to be checked.. points? Electronic ignition? Put new plugs in it then go from there. Alwaya nice to have two people to help with this. ( not a must)

Lol, the hole in my trunk coincides with the giant hole in the gas tank. If i have to do all that it will be forever till i start it. I have a 500 a month budget, set by the XO.

If you put a carb on it get it running and find out it runs good that would free up large sums of money to spend elsewhere on the car. Not to mention getting car in a presentable running state much sooner. If it runs good maybe replace gaskets seals give engine a pretty paint job and run it. Then at a later time build a hotter engine ect after rest of car is fixed up.

Kinda my plan, i guess. I am pulling it out one way or another for resto work and painting it and the engine bay.

Run fuel line hose from fuel pump to a gas can so hose can suck in clean fresh gas.

I do like this idea.

So edelbrock is a modern version of the carter. Parts are way more available and cheap for the edelbrock! Look on line for a used 600 or 650. I have a rebuild kit if necessary. I feel like maybe I would like to help you if you want.. i really dont have time in the next week or two but would you like if I came to help you for a day? I have a 500 edelbrock that would work for a fire up.. mYbe that would help you. Your budget is going to be a slow roll anyway. It would be nice to know where the starting point is… if your serious and committed I would consider helping you with a fire up!
