Tough dog!

They have been running this on the news constantly since it happened. Yesterday the owners got to pick the dog up from dog jail. He has to go to obedience classes and the City of Chattanooga filed a civil suit against the owners for the damages to the police cars.

Here's Winston in jail.

Bahahahahaha! Goes to show you how well Ford puts their cruisers together...

Awwww, poor Winston, he was just doing his job for crying out loud... :)

I'm suprised they didn't nail the brown dog as an "accomplis"

I think Winston was just trying to "pull" over the coppers to let them know they were speeding. Its funny how they just didn't jam it in reverse and speed away. Cop cars are used for chasing cars, but they can't get away from a dog. In the end, the moral of the story is... DON"T DRIVE FORDS!

Imagine what those dogs could have done to someone just walking by?

Tie your friggin dogs up!

That's actually one of the worst things you can do to a dog. Tying them up will produce an unhappy, unsocialized, and mean dog. A fenced yard, electric or otherwise, is a better solution. I work for the local H.S. and have seen dogs tied up for basically ever. Collars embeded into their necks, no fresh water avail, no shelter. Makes me sick.

People who want to own dogs need to be responsible for them. Teach them obedience and care for them properly or just don't have one.

As for what may have happened to someone walking by...you can see in the video this was a game for that dog. His fur was not raised, his tail was wagging, he was not attacking so much as playing tug-o-war. Just with a very large chew toy.

Shows you how blatantly out of control the costs are for these damages too.......A plastic bumper cover, painted to match and installed........

$3,000. ???? THREE GRAND ???????

That's what the cops say the damages are.......Incredible.

Poor puppy is gonna be fetchin' slippers at the Precinct fer' a hundred years to work THAT bill off. :toothy10:

Keep that in mind next time you go to pet a dog! Any dog could rip your face off at will!

When I was young we had a dog we could not tie up! If it didn't break the chain it would rip the post right out of the ground. It's amazing really.

yeah, I have seen all that cruelty stuff before, it's nasty, but you can also tie up a dog repsonsibly and still have a very happy, healthy dog.

I have a dog right now female shepherd/chow that I cannot let run loose because she can jump and climb fences.
She jumped my mini van one day going after a cat.

Electric fences do not work for her.

I have to keep her tied to a long cable run and she is happy like that.

Either that or build a 15' tall fence or a kennel.

The point I was trying to make is the pack mentality of dogs running loose.

I've seen them tear up livestock, humans and terrorize.

When I lived in Pennsylvania I went for a walk in the woods behind my house and decided to take my bushmaster with me just in case since dog packs were killing livestock in the area and coyotes ran in packs once the idiots turned them loose to cut down deer population.

Lucky I did because I came across a pack of 9 dogs with 2 pittbulls leading the charge.

I was forced to shoot five out of nine dogs with the two Pitts requiring multiple rounds.

Needless to say the neighboring farmers were happy I decided to take a walk that day with my friend.

In all seriousness, I have to agree with cudaspaz on this one. Granted it was fun to see Winston rip the bumper off a Ford, but I'm sure there's much more to this story than just the vid. Unfortunately, if that would have happened in Denver, the cops would've shot all the dogs and they'd have every legal right, as would any passerby if attacked or charged.

Mopargirl also has a point that chained dogs get vicous. BUT, a long cable or chain is fine as long as they have run of the yard and are not out all day or all night long, with or without food and water.

When I'm working in the garage in the summer, I'll cable the dogs to the garage door rail to keep the scum away (my garage opens to the alley) and they're fine. My backyard has a 6 ft. fence and even though Merlin could probably jump it, he doesn't know he can...... yet.

In my neighborhood, there are loose dogs everywhere and the problem is this:

1. A loose dog charges someone with a concealed weapon permit and the dog is dead.
2. Cars.. I can't tell you all how many people I've known over the years that have lost a dog to a car hit.
3. The loose dog attacks another dog on a leash on a another persons private property...get ready for a lawsuit.
4. Loose dogs are coyote bait.
5. Loose dogs are skunk and racoon bait too.
6. No matter how well trained your dog is, if it finds more dogs and becomes the leader or follower, all bets are off. Little "Pookie" can become a serious hazard.

Merlin got out twice since I've had him and I'm lucky he didn't get shot. He's so big that even as a lone dog, people really freak out when they see him, even though he means no harm as a recently "escaped convict", lol. Who knows what he might be like after a week though...

Damn! After reading some of these posts makes me wonder about getting a dog.

DRENO, you've got be a leader with a dog, that's all there really is to it. A person can't just get one and feed it, you've got to train by positive reinforcement and negative aversion plus socialization. It's a lot of work vs. having a cat but you'll end up with a best friend for life and a good canine citizen. :read2:

Just this morning (6 am dog walk) there were a bunch of senior citizens going on their morning walk. They were facinated by Merlin and wanted to meet him, so they all got to pet him and they all loved it! Merlin included, lol. Merlin and I just made some new friends. Can't do that with a cat. :-D

I agree with the cat info, maybe because mine is useless.I watch the dog whisperer(Caesar) and what he says seems to make real sense. They seem to feed off of you and your vibes. It is a big commitment but I think the reward is worth it.Some day..............I hope, thx Joe.

Nice story bout the seniors.8)

I agree with about 90% of what Caeser teaches. But what the hell do I know? LOL! Owning a dog is like being in management. Presently, my dogs listen better than my technicians. It's time for some "Aversion Therapy".....:-D Dogs are very attuned to facial expressions and can read us like a book, that's the "vibes" that Ceaser is talking about. They can also smell us sweat and hear our heartbeat. They are natures lie detectors.

No bull about the seniors, that happend this morning...

Joe kind of hit on one of the big rewards of having a "good dog". Most dogs, at least the smart ones, are experts at reading and reacting to human emotions. If you're happy then the dog sees this and it's happy, the same goes for if you're sad. The dog also wants to belong in the pack it's genetic, in this case the human pack, and it's always up to the pack master to make sure the dog understands and accepts it's place at the bottom of the pack. This is where a lot of people fail miserably and end up with a dog that tries to become the pack leader instead of being taught to accept the bottom. The dog by instinct knows that there is security, food and companionship in the pack and therefore if it's owner does not offer the dog a pack situation at home then the the dog will most likely find it's own and we know what that leads to. It's all about being the boss and teaching the dog the required commands like sit and stay and "NO" and drop it and always being consistant and being prepared to reinforce the commands cuss the dog will always be checking to see if the rules have changed. Dog Whisper's a good show and for some people it should be required to watch before they are allowed to own a dog but the show is all about reading the dog and making sure the dog reads you the owner. You'll hear that raising a dog is like having little children in the house which to some extent is true, like everything goes in it's mouth, except that most dogs before they reach 1 year old are a whole smarter than young children, this ability some people have problems dealing with.

Well said Terry. :read2: My hounds test me constantly, mostly when I forget to train on a daily basis (read treat for tricks or don't walk them due to weather).

Since Maxi can't be walked very far, Merlin gets the long walk every morning. In the last month he's really begun to walk like a pro (loose leash and not straining at the leash to get at the damn canadian geese). It takes a constant "good boy!" when he's walking right at my side or quick snap of the leash on a choker and a hearty "Hey!" to stop him from chasing. Distracting him with commands to do whatever helps to keep his mind on me, not the geese too.

If I was a dog 8)and lived there "and it does look like he is on his property" and seen a different kind of car:tongue9: with lights with an attitude 8)I would have dun the same thing :toothy10: Look at how he plays with the dog with his cruiser while the dog wagging his tail, I bet he could have got out and pet him :toothy10:

A dog needs fellowship Everyday!! and taught to enjoy people by letting them hang with ya when you do the simplest of thing's " it's like if you are raising a child at first"
Every dog I have owned was ether on a leash at least 60 foot , But I did not leave him alone If I was outside he was there with me or tied close buy and had a better diet then me 8) I had a car stop by my old home place where I had a shop for myself  and a car dealer "I think' came by and ask about my Barracuda:angry7: and I stopped what ever I was doing :angry7:and walked out to his car and said No it's not for sale and had a Not for Sale sign on it:read2: I may have been a little rude when I started walking away :-D
I look where he was backing strait in to Sockets house and I said not to go back any farther !!!! and he must have not under stood and Socket pulled a peace of plastic trim off his car, a ruff looking Caddy :-D I will never forget that day 8) Your Dog knows how you feel and it may have been just as much my fault as Sockets, But he had two other places to turn around and must have thought he could turn around in the grass :angry7:
When I go out Buddy goes with me on a leash because he is still a baby, But you have got to protect your dog buy bringing them in to your home or in a kennel or leash
Take them to the store with you  Heck they need to enjoy a car ride with.
With all this said, If you don't give them the fellowship and training "just like a person or child " this the dog will be unpredictable and suffer for mans care and love..... My 4 legger's are my eye's and ear's and most of all my best friends
Your hart will raise a good animal, a person with no hart/care won't ever know what it's like to have a real friend :thumbrig: + I need there fellowship as much as they need mine.

DO NOT Just let them run at night out in the city, county or what ever, They can pick up diseases or even get jumped by a pack of dogs.. My dogs always likes people:-D But :angry7:a person with an attitude may want to stay the hell away from any of my dog's.:happy10:

Hey Joe, I wouldn't want to be the one trying to hold back Merlin if he desides to sample some goose patte. By the way how's Maxi doing?

Well said Mike! I forgot to add and you reminded me that dogs are our "superman eyes, ears and nose". I rely on Merlin on walks to let me know who's where and whats up. I'm leading/watching him and he's hearing, smelling and seeing everthing else and he let's me know if something isn't right. Maxi is the brawn, she reacts to his pointers. It's like a team.... OK, it's a pack, but it's my pack. :-D

Another good point you make is about the playing. If the cop would have just stopped instead of going back and forth, Winston might have stopped. This is just a thought.....

Good boy Socket! A good way to get your car "customized" is to almost run over a dog house.... :toothy10: He certainly picked up on your feelings Mike, no doubt. Socket knew this guy had no business there. :angry7:

You are also so right about a dog just needing to be there no matter what you are doing. If I could, I'd bring them to work, lol. The only time I shut the door to the garage is when there's coolant on the floor or I'm welding, otherwise, they are great shop dogs. They just hang out and watch with a cocked head and a look like "WTF?", lol. I think if Maxi had opposable thumbs, she'd could be some help. :toothy10:
