Need 3K converter...

I would buy an Edge and be done with it. Give the man all your info and let him specify what you need. You will be MUCH happier if you let him do his job.

so i take it u dont like PTC??

OK, heres my take on PTC. And I need to make a few points clear. I had a old TCI 8 inch converter, that I broke, after many, many years of use. I sent it to PTC for repair. In my opinion the repair charges were pretty high (however I did not ask for an estimate, ahead of time). I could have bought a new converter for close to the same price. So lets assume, that for the price charged, they did a complete refurbish, with updated parts (hence the price). Then I would think the almost 30 year old converter would be better then it was prior to breaking (which it was not, about the same). The converter I used to replace the broken converter, was the Edge 9 1/2 inch, which cost me less then the repair to the 8 inch. The difference in performance between the two converters was not noticable, in the same car. Any difference could be atributed to running on different days.
All that said, the PTC repaired converter did work fine and I am still running it in my 66 Cuda with a 170, and the Edge converter is in my 66 Valiant with a 225.
There are many Slanters using the PTC, with good results, and are happy with it.
I think they are both good companies. Just make sure any Co. you talk to gets the same info about your car/engine, so you can compare apples to apples.

My Dad just had a couple old FE/C6 Ford converters rebuilt at Portland Transmission and they added stall to both, 2800 in one and 3100 in the other. Cost him something like $175 a pop to have them done.

I'm wondering about stall speed when the car is turbocharged and has some REALLY GOOD B-body brakes on the rear. Ryan says he leaves with 28 pounds of boost...

That's gotta do SOMETHING to the stall speed of ANY converter..... I would think, wouldn't you???

Our new 11" converter from Dacco is a 2500 rpm stall unit. I wonder what it'll stall at with some boost?

Say, just to give an example of what a convertor will do in diff apps. My GER started out as a 9.5 4000 stall built for a small block 3000lb car. First car it was in was a 340 Dart that ran 11.70's and could only stall it to around 2800 no matter what we did. Next was a 440ci 72 Charger that ran 12.70's and it would stall to around 3800. Next was the 66 Valiant with a turbo 170ci and it wouldn't even hit 2000 but when the boost hit it was at 4000 right now. With the 225 turbo I can get it from 3800 to 4200 anytime at it running 10.90's With it running faster now, the motor walks through it and acts like a snowmobile. Launching at 5000 is no fun when you shift at 5200 and the motor dont run past 5400. I have launched the car at 23 psi before and this is with 10" drums on all four. later

thats the converter i had in it... would only stall to 2K if it was 110 outside...

So have you found one yet? I'm stabbin a 4.30 gear and a heap of cam in my car and will need a similar converter myself.

I have a TCI converter for sale for a 727. It is a 3000-3500 Streetfight Stall Summit part number TCI-142200.Costs $509.95 new I used it 150 street miles and blew up my motor. Now I have only 4 speed so I no longer need it.I am asking $300.00 with the TCI flex plate.I have use TCI products since the early 90's and never had any problems.
