I just got some cragar SS 5x4 for my stock duster with 7/16 LH 20 lug nuts that summit states go with those wheels. But for some reason they dont fit i cant get the to screw on there, the old ones are 7/16 and go on there just fine but the cragar ones its like they are too small and arent wide enough to fit on the stud. Anyone ever have this problem?? the guy at the tire place said that the 20 might be why it was too small but i had 20 on there before he said i may need a 21 or 22 cause the hole is wider. I just dont understand why they dont fit if they are the same size as the old ones as well.

The 20 means 20 threads per inch of threads and has nothing to do with the diameter. Sounds like a manufacturing defect. I wonder if they are made overseas now? The guy at the tire store..... LOL!!!

it is a 1970 but they woudnt fit on either side, they would just bout fit one thread and wouldnt go on at all after that. Is there any other ones i could use besides the ones i got from summit that were cragar ones. Is there a generic brand i can get from autozone or something that would work or do they have to be the cragar ones?? What do you guys suggest i do? try ordering the right hand ones from cragar?? it just doesnt seem like the diameter is wide enough to get past one or two threads.

quickest fix would be to put your new wheels in the back and head to the nearest tire shop they will have the lugs you need in stock and help you out the easiest

if your duster is 1971 or newer it's probably all RH thread all 4 wheels

if its 1970 it might have LH threads on the LH side of the car

1973 is the change over year from Ma Mopar. If a 1972 back has right handed threads on the drivers side they were changed by a previous owner.

In the opening post ........ "the guy at the tire place said"
The left handed thread lugnuts for Cragar aren't just laying around every where so I doubt that will work.

I just put new cragars on mine and I had trouble at first. I had to try one with the wheel off and they did fit. Guess I wasn't lined up

Just covering the basics....
Did you try them without the wheel?
What does the lugnut say on the side of the head? It should say 7/16 20 LH.
Do you use anti-sieze on the wheel studs?

Side note with Cragars. Always check to make sure the shank on the lugnut is the proper length and doesn't go past the hub surface on the back of the wheel. The lugnut will torque down but the wheel won't be tight. Ask me how I know......

The last set I got I had to clean up a bit with a 7/16 NF RH and 7/16 NF LH tap. They fit as they came but were very hard to get started so I cleaned up the threads. I think they chrome them after the threads are in them.

Yes i tried them without the wheel on and they wouldnt go on, they are 7/16 LH 20, i didnt use any anti seize. Should i try using some on the studs?

yep, you should use anti-seize, but that won't help the problem.

You "are" turning them the right way?
this (and of course we mean the 'left' way:D)

edit- and all 20 of them aren't LH thread, I hope...?

I'd drive the daily rattler down to a fastener/ hardware store. Buy ONE 7/16 fine thread nut, and before you leave, take a 7/16 fine thread bolt (with your right hand nuts, of course,) and try one or two lug nuts on the bolt

If that works OK, take the 7/16 nut home and try it on your RH studs to make sure THEY are OK.

If either/ neither fits, buy a 7/16 tap or die, or both, and go "chasin" some threads

If you examine some bolts you can TELL BY LOOKING if they are RH or LH thead.

Hold the bolt so the end is up, and look at the threads. RH threads will go "downhill" to the LEFT

LEFT had threads will go down to the RIGHT

Below, the LEFT drawing is LEFT hand thread, the RIGHT drawing is RIGHT hand thread

That would have been Masseys in Oklahoma City. Their eBay ID is massey1946.

MASSEYS ACCESSORY SHOP, 405-239-2010, 1319 S. ROBINSON, OKLA. CITY, OK.

Dont know if this will help i am in fl and the large dealers in Tampa /Orlando and Miami did not know what i needed but Masseys had them in stock.

Man I may be all wet on this but I was all way told never put grease, oil, never seize or anything on lug bolts and nuts "?????????

old farts right. never put antisieze on lug nuts. [ unless of course you want your wheels to fall off while driving down the road ]

Another check to see if you have the correct lug nuts is to check the wrench size. A-bodies are the only ones I know of that use an 11/16" one.

If you don't put oil in your motor it will never leak either. I have been putting anti-seize on lugs since the begining of time. If you use it you do have to tighten them.

Me three. Up in this area, with "winter" if you run open end lug nuts on your "winter wheels" with no hubcaps, they will rust up the studs on the end. I'd rather put up with a slight amount of discoloration that rusted studs.

At LEAST put a drop or two of oil on 'em if nothing else
