Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

If I didn't have my wheels and tires, I'd go for those.
 
Ordering tires tomorrow. Looks like if I go with a 245/45-17 on my 72 Duster I'll have enough clearance.

That about how you guys see it?
 
Unless the offset or some other component is just crazy, a 245/45 ought to fit on just about anything. If you have any doubt, run down to your tire store and grab one from their trash tire pile and have them mount it up for a tester.

I've done my duty and searched around for 30 minutes but haven't seen my exact question addressed. Another post in this particular thread talks about the difficulty of a Bullitt wheel when you have an original A body 8.75 rear (it's narrower). I'm upgrading to BBP and Wilwood discs out back which may push the track out slightly - we'll see. Otherwise right now I'd need a 4.5" BS wheel, and since the Bullit is 5.72", I would need a 1.22" spacer. That seems crazy big. Is that dangerous? Does this become dangerous at a certain amount of torque? 680 ft-Lbs (engine dyno)?
 
im running bbp mosers with 11x3 drums in an a-bodyt width 8.75. im also usig 1 inch hubcentric spacers.

i run mine HARD onm the autox course, street, track, etc. not had any concerns. 1 inch spacer will be perfect. if anything, i should have gone with a 3/4 or 7/8 spacer to pull them in a har more from the outer wheelhouse.

im also running 255/50/17 rear tires, with a dropped ride height. layig 390 at the rear wheels.
 
I used billet 3/4" spacers before switching to a B-body rear and they worked just fine.

Thanks Guys - good to hear I'm not the first and you guys are around to tell me about it! Now I need to do some thread searches and find cool Dodge center caps to replace the Ford or American Muscle ones. I have some time before spring hits so I may lurk around looking for a used set for awhile.

Quick question for ya guys....Can i mount a 275/40/17 on a 17x8 inch wheel? have any of yall done it?

If ya look at wheels for less, or tire rack, or summit etc. they say the minimum recommended rim width for this particular size should be 9 inches. would it be okay for an 8 inch wide wheel?
 
i have 4 rims with 245 45 17s and 2 rims with 275 40 17 nitto drag radials, i like the way it looks with the 275s. i dont think id run it on the front though. i liked having all 4 the same for simplicity but car looks much better with the slightly wider tire on the back vs all 4 the same.

It might make some difference on a tire-by-tire basis... some run a little wider than others size for size, but I think you can easily run a 275/40 on an 8" wheel. I probably have pix of mine somewhere in this thread, but let me see if I can find the link again... OK, here's probably a useful pic. Top half is a 245/45 Bridgestone Potenza and bottom half is a 275/40 Goodyear Eagle F1. The GY runs a little narrow for the size. I think it fits the wheel just fine.

What are the real aesthetic and physical differences between these two?

Rumor has it the 05-09 has a deeper BS (which I would think is better with an AlterK on an A body) and the 99-05 has a more "peaky" spoke with more of a ridge. Anyone know the truth here?

Like stated goto http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustangwheels.html They have all the specs on the different year wheels.. I believe the 05-up do have more backspace... Best bet is to call bill at rms about it fitting with the alter-k. I was running the 01 style with the alter-k in my dart. They have 5.72 backspace...

I'm wondering if it's a situation where they throw in some spacers to make an 05-09 fit on 99-04's but it's all the same wheel. Tried calling them today but they were closed. Will try again tomorrow.

Just spoke with American Muscle and confirmed the bullitt wheels they carry for the 99-04 are the same as the 05-09 even though they have different part numbers. They have different part numbers because of tire reccomendations based on proper ride for a particular gen mustang - but the actual wheel is the same. This applies only to American Muscle - I don't know anything about other aftermarket suppliers of the Bullitts. I believe the OEM bullitt wheels are different in appearance (spoke peak) from one gen to the next.
 
Does anybody know if the American Muscle mustang wheels have a big enough opening or center register to clear mopar front hub?

I already have read that factory mustang wheels do not.
