It looks like our old group of FABOers and MMLers (Mopar Mailing List) folks are going to have a little reunion at Spring Fling '17. That includes 1 from WA, 3 from AZ and a chunk from NorCal. Damn ... I guess this means I actually have to get one of mine roadworthy again. It's a little ways off but you know how that goes - it creeps up mighty quick. Anyone can join us heading down and if the timing us right, we may join another group heading down there. We might do the 4 day trip/stay so we can do the cruse on Thurs or stay Sun night so we can get some Monday cruising in of all our favorite nostalgic auto haunts down there.

As for hotel stay, that's up in the air for now. We will wait to see what the CPW can come up with price/accommodation-wise. The Fall Fling pricing structure was a tad high for us poor Mopar guys. I think Dennis H posted his bill on FBBO and his 4 day stay was almost $800 with parking & breakfast) at the Airtel. We'll decide this later but we may stay at our old haunt (which use to be the old host hotel) and get a small block there. Should work out well since we're all planning on driving and not trailering. We're looking forward to this get-together. Of course, the cars are a big part of it but since we've been doing this for so long, it's mainly about seeing old friends and meeting new ones. More to come.

What is the date for it in 2017? I'm planning on my first trip down there next year and haven't seen a confirmed date on the site yet. Coming from the Yuba City/Marysville area with my family and a friends family. We won't have cars road worthy by then (72 Duster/70 Challenger/66 Coronet) but hope to enjoy the show and find a few deals!

SF is 4/8-9. There is a track day and cruise before those dates though. Keep toolin' on one of the cars. Who knows ... maybe you'll get one together in time.

Thanks for the information, Helps with planning the trip. I'd love to have my Duster done by then, unfortunately It's the closest one to being done and here she sits...

Are you going to be installing sidebars off the main hoop?

Undecided on the side bars. I have the material for them and I have started on some templates to make my own hinges for them as well, but not sure if I'm going through with it. If I had to do it all over again there would be no roll bar at all. I just wanted a nice street rod to build and I got a good deal on this car. Unfortunately one of the PO's had already cut out all the sheet metal behind the seats through to the rear pan, installed a Chris Alston subframe from the torsion bar cross member back, and had the tubs about 90% installed. The car is so solid to me it was a shame to cut it up.... It's set up for Ladder bars and coil overs. I've got the rear end and bars ready to drop in and have this much done on the cage.

My plan was to finish up the frame, tubs, suspension, put in at least this much of the roll cage, assemble the interior and repaint the car. Have fun with it for a while as a street rod and then possibly sell it to someone who would like to have a decent start on a street/strip car. I like the drags but really not interested in doing it on a regular basis. It's just got a nice healthy 318 in it for now and if I do take it to the strip the cage will be legal and add some protection.

Malibu Cruise on Friday
Cruise In at Bobs Big Boy Saturday

Lots to do car-wise in SoCal the weekend of Spring Fling! You're going to have to plan your time wisely...
In addition to Spring Fling:
April 8 - 14th Annual Corn Feed Run Car Show, Chino
April 9 - 9th Annual Chaffey College Car Show, Rancho Cucamonga
April 9 - Long Beach Hi-Performance Swap Meet, Long Beach
April 8-9 - 4th annual Street Machine and Muscle Car Nationals, Fairplex at Pomona

Who's driving down from Washington? What day?
Larry will be bringing his c- or b-body out of Vancouver and hoping res1 from here will be joining in from Renton.

Had a nice long catch up call with my buddy Glen from GCAR (Spokane) and hoping he will join us too.

Not sure on the departure date yet.

Yikes, lots of good stuff going on that weekend. We're planning on staying 3-4 days and want to take a few pics one day at a few of our favorite car movie locations in the area (and cruise around SoCal a bit). Maybe we can work it in on the Malibu cruise day. Already have the addresses mapped out. ;)

Malibu Cruise on Friday
Cruise In at Bobs Big Boy Saturday

Look forward to hearing what hotel arrangements will be worked out for the show (whether at the Airtel or some other location).

Approx how long (time-wise) is the Malibu cruise? What is the start/finish time?

Since the cruise-in @ Bobs is open to the public, is there any way of securing spots there early on? I think someone on FBBO said there was only 1 Mopar in the actual parking lot. Would be nice to see a row of them.

Sorry, just noticed your last reply. It sounds like quit the project with lots of possible twists and turns. So far, it looks great. The sidebars can always be added. Interesting you mentioned Chris. I have great stories when we were all younger and he had his first shop in the Belmont/San Carlos area. So much fun back then. Also, I'm using a set of his original swing out sidebars from 198? Still work and look great. He also helped me out recently with my chassis for my 35 Ply PJ coupe.

I think you are thinking of the Friday general weekly cruise in at bobs Northridge. And possibly at the recent Fall Fling.

For Spring Fling we have a special Saturday night Spring Fling Cruis-In. I think there were over 50 Mopars there last year at one time.

The Friday Malibu driving cruise starts at 10am at Woodley Park and finishes in Malibu for lunch around 1pm.

We will work something out with the Airtel and/or another hotel(S)

Yes, it might have been a Friday night for this past FF. Glad to hear that the SF cruise-in @ Bobs is so well attended. It's been awhile since I've been to it.

The Malibu cruise sounds like it will work well with our pic taking/cruising plans. I know we don't want to be too far away once rush hour starts.

Again, looking forward to the hotel info.

The Chino Corn Feed Run - April 8th

That's just blocks from my house....(I live in Chino)...maybe 5 or 6 blocks.
It's a great fun show...and the open header contest is far out!
I will be there with the 'Cuda 100% for sure! Had my Stingray there a couple years ago. Didn't get the 'Cuda there last year as it didn't have an engine in it! LOL !

Hopefully, the day before (April 7th) I'll do the Malibu Beach cruise with you guys. It rained (drizzled) for the Fall Fling this year....I have no need to take the 'Cuda out in any amount of rain...it's seen 50 years of rain and that's enough!

Got some projects to do on the car over the rainy Fall/Winter to keep me busy!
Can't Wait for Spring!

Jeff

If (and that's a big if) my Barracuda is together and road worthy I will likely be at the show at the Fairplex. First show my wife and I went to was the Street Machine Nats there in October 1981 and we were in the Barracuda that I owned at that time. I need some decent days to get the paint done so that I can start the assembly...

Get to it! That'll be a nice 35.5th anniversary of the first show together. That same year, I was at the Car Craft Nationals at Cal Expo. Theres an interesting story behind that one. How the time flies.

Our first Cal Expo show was three weeks after we got married in May 1982. Went every year until 1986 (by that time it was a Tognotti's show). Took the '66 Barracuda in '82, '83, and '84. Took the GTS in '83, '85', and '86. The Barracuda that I own now was also at the '85 show.
