Anybody ever "DIY" your own slant to SB engine mounts?

If I get serious about the "new" 74 Scamp, I will likely stick a SB in there instead of the slant. Since it's February, and there's over a foot of snow on the ground, this is all dreaming.

So it of course has a slant K, and spool mounts. Anybody ever DIY their own so that you don't have to change or chop up the factory K?

Last mounts I made for a mini truck were ghetto but worked great. Solid mounts in a drag truck: We hung the motor where we thought it would line up and put some jacks under it so it would fall on us when we were under there. My buddy took a big lump of clay and molded it to the existing V8 mounts and the truck motor mounts. They were not that far off but not even close to being the same distance for and aft. With the clay impression, we welded up a big extension so it would physically bolt into the frame holes and the motor mount brackets. After we gave it a trial fit, we then braced the sheetmetal mounts up. Turned out functional considering we were 17 and didnt know how to stick weld. IIRC it was a 302 in a Mazda/Courier.

I have made a few slant six to 340 mounts for early k frames...very easy.
But i have never made the spool conversion mounts ...they would be more difficult!

I have converted 4 or 5 of the 73-76 slant six K members to small block. I had a stock small block unit there as a template for measuring and accuracy. I did this just to make a few bucks by selling them at swap meets. It is NOT a lucrative endeavor.

Hey bud I have a brand new set of Schumacher 73 and up slant 6 to 318 engine conversion mounts. Pm if your interested.

Yes. '67 Bisquet style.
Two pieces of angle iron welded into a box section. Installing the nut onto the bisquite mount was a PIA but it is anyway, so really not a big deal.
The box section to the k-frame mount was bolted together.
IIRC I did slightly grind back one of the original mounts on the K.
I still have the K, and maybe the box section too, if you want to get pics.

These would be spool and I would not want to modify the K. I was hoping to do the conversion "in the mounts." Conversion mounts are "45ish?" I thought they were more like 150

"Goes to Schumaker site..............".........................

uh YEP 160 + 20 bucks........and they are "out of stock"

'73 & Up A,B,F,M,J-Body S6 to 273/318 or 340/360 Conversion Kit

Slant 6 getting you down? Power up to a 273/318, or 340/360 with our spool mount conversion kits that position a V8 engine to factory specs on your original '73 and up A, B, F, M, J-Body (and '74 & up C-Body) Slant 6 K-member. Kits include laser-cut, powder-coated brackets, urethane inserts, grade 8 bolts, detailed, illustrated instructions. Applicable to cars with or without power steering.
(see installation instructions and tech tips)

NOTE: The driver's side mounting perch on the '73 & Up K-member interferes with any V8 block and B/RB oil pump. To eliminate this problem, the driver's side engine mounting perch needs to be drilled with 9/16" holes and excess material must be removed. This effectively lowers the perch and is detailed in the instructions.

............Starting to look like it's a K frame swap.........

That is exactly what I have.

I guess the thing to do "if I live that long" would be to mod my 67 K to handle the new style idler arm and swap that in there. The 67 has a newer spool mount V8 K in it

We fabbed spool mounts for a sm blk into a 4wd early Dakota.
Perhaps something like this may help.
Sleeves and spring bushings readily avail from 4wheel drive supplier

I “think” with a spool k frame if you don’t mod the k frame the drivers side will be way too high; not even sure if you could build a mount short enough to deal with that

If I remember correctly, Alex5280 converted the /6 k frame to accept stock V8 spool mounts. Maybe look at some of the early pages in his thread. I think it's titles "74 Duster, my 2nd one 41 years later"

If you have a 72 or earlier k frame laying around all you need is that and the regular v8 mount on driver side and use a truck mount on the passenger side...done it a bunch and its easy peasy.
