Putting Stock 302 Casting Heads on a Stock '65 273.
Wanna Stay with the little Carter BBd 2bbl(for now), but on a 4bbl Intake (for later)
But Which One? Thinking aluminum, Thinking Dual Plane...
Still I don't know...
Does a 2bbl carb to 4bbl intake adapter sound ridiculous?
for a Sport/Cruiser '65 barracuda 200/250HP...
Thoughts/Advice?

could get a cast iron 4-bbl intake and Carter carb to make it look stockish...but an aluminumintake is much easier to hoist over the fenders. a dual plane for sure...1st style Performer maybe?

I would think you might just be better off staying with the two barrel manifold till you're ready to go to the four barrel and then convert all at once. I don't think there's much to gain. It just seems like a better match with the two barrel manifold and the two barrel carburetor, four barrel manifold four barrel carburetor. My two cents

My Manifold is the Early Style 273 with the Weird Angle and Smaller Intake Bolts.
Once I put the 302 Heads on My Intake won't work. Right?

If you pay the shipping ( about 26.00 USPS), you can have this one. 1971 318 two barrel single plane. If you get the carb pad milled open and put a two to four barrel adapter on it will make a very happy 273. It works well with 675 heads, 302 would be even better. It sealed very well with steel shim gaskets and even the cork gaskets coated with shellac, even though I would use Permatex Ultra Gray.

A 2bbl./4bbl. adapter is workable, especially if the manifold is of an open plenum design; but here's another thought: why not pop a 360 2bbl. manifold & carb on it for now- a few more cfm, and you can probably score one for next to nothing. They actually work surprisingly well, and on a 273 could really wake it up a bit.

Start a wanted ad for an Edelbrock LD4B. It’s the best 273/318 intake. Long out of production but well worth the hunt. Also a word of advice on newer cylinder heads. Some have different bumps and protrusions that can interfere with the stock exhaust manifolds. I would bolt your manifolds to the heads before installation to test the clearance.

Is the LD4B a Cast Iron one?

LD4B is an aluminum 318 sized port copy of an Edelbrock LD340. It's a wonderful intake, the closest new thing to it is a Weiand stealth, but the flow path is offset differently.

Okay, correct, and I gotta give myself the dreaded RED X on that one, Lol! The Stealth is a direct copy of the LD4B. The LD340 had a unique flow path all of its own.

We often go down this road in this hobby...
(I used to do a little bit a little wouldn't do it so a little got more and more...G&R)
I offer this... It goes along with the cry once theory.. Buy the nicest intake manifold you can afford...
Me personally when I got my duster with 318 and it had a LD4B I knew that was just a jumping off point...(for me).
I have the first manifold that I bought for it brand new and it worked great on the 318 and it works great on my 410 Stroker.. and now it cost $100 more 7 years later.. Dual quad tunnel ram...
Any manifold is going to work, kind of like dressing for the job you want..

Yeah, but This old car has a Tired 273, a903 Synchro-less 3-Speed and a 7 1/4" rear with 323's...
It just needs Heads, not a 4-Barrel. It's got Sunk Valve Seats and Smokes alot.
I don't wanna wash the rings out before I get a chance to enjoy it a little.
Not Trying to Pull the front wheels, at least not in This car. -e

A little footage of how well his new old intake works on a warmed over 318 with a boggy BBD. Wish the mining company wasn't washing the road that day, the 7-1/4 doesn't have a lot of life left in it so no of the normal full action driving from the bottom of the hill in the wet. It would probably be a little hard to hold onto at 80 with the rear end in a death lock...

LOL I wasn't suggesting a tunnel ram for you and a properly tuned set up isn't going to wash the rings...
More suggesting something nice so you don't end up buying several over time...
For conversation sake though you could put two two barrel conversions over four barrels on a tunnel ram or you could close one off with a plate completely and put it two barrel on the other lol with a conversion...
From the way you were talking you did seem to expect to be rebuilding or replacing at some point and then you'll be buying possibly yet another manifold...

I’d get an edelbrock performer aluminum intake. The LD4B usually cost 300$ the performer usually can find locally 75$+. LD4B doesn’t have the coil mount spot either.

Yeah, after I get the 2-year tags on it in June I'm gonna do a freshen-up on the 273.
It get's about 125/135 psi in the Cyls when its cold. She can barely get out of her way.
For now tho, I'd be happy to stop the Smoking. It's Embarrassing watching the people behind me Die when I leave a light. Lol

Your early heads will flow better. But if the seats are gone, go for the 302's. Get a decent cam, valve springs, and a double true roller timing set. Use late LA viton valve seals. Most 4 barrel intakes will be good including stock 273 and 340/360 intake. I would stay away from "economiser" type intakes as a good 273 will like to rev. Find true TDC. It can be way off by the marks.

My opinion.........look for a Holley Street Dominator intake......it is an aluminum single plane intake, possibly cost less than an LD4B, looks alot like the factory cast iron 4 bbl; OR go with the already mentioned Edelbrock Performer, another low cost, available, intake.

Actually 125-135 psi is about right for a 273 with 2 barrel pistons. What oil are you using? Do you know what work was done to the 273? Have you adjusted the valves? You can use a later intake with your 1965 heads by using a tapered washer, McMaster-Carr. Oil can also be sucked past the stupid steel shim intake gasket, try a good set, PLYMOUTH Fel-Pro 1243 Fel-Pro Performance Intake Manifold Gasket Sets | Summit Racing. Also make sure your passenger side exhaust manifold heat riser is not stuck closed. A straight thru exhaust similar to the 65 Commando 2.5 OD exhaust will also help.

My Lowest One was 120 and the highest 135psi. 15/40 Rotella t4. Valves are adjusted "by feel" for low noise.
I recently changed intake gasket because I saw some Chocolate Milk in the Oil...
I assumed the 302's would be better because of the Hardened Seats alone with today's gas.
Heat Riser is Flowing

I don't think Any work was done, Ever. it appeared Bone Stock and Neglected when I got it last May...
