$3200 shipped. .....ouch!
It's not about gas mileage as much as it's about drivability....

I plan to drive this car....LOTS.....road trips, etc. and I dont want to be spinning 3500 RPM on the Highway (not to mention the noise!)

Anyway, another piece of the puzzle is on it's way. ....I'm excited!

Damn, is that the going price these days??? I've heard nothing but great things about them. Take lots of the photos of the install!

Thanks!
I'm hoping all I'll need to clear the tunnel is either a BMFH or an inpact hammer.....hope i don't have to cut....we'll see!

I think you fab a cross member to mount it right? Yeah they've gone up in price, California penalizes businesses here and it is passed on to stay in business.

shouldn't have to modify the crossmember just a little ding in the floor for clearance from what a have heard.

Congrats and the best of wishes to a successful and quick installation. Big bucks for that unit. Dang.

Cool. Keep us posted on the install and how you like it!

I had one in my '70 Charger for about 18 months. The unit worked fine but the electronics were faulty. I liked having that extra "gear". Although the .78 ratio was not that great compared to a 518 (.69) or a manual trans, it does help a LOT for reducing driver fatigue.
My GV was a first generation unit. It had no provisions to mount the floor shifter. It had a bolt on yoke requiring a special slip-spline drive shaft. The new ones are much better.
Good luck.

Congratulations Jeff, i’ve heard nothing but good things about the Gear Vendors.

Congrats on the GVOD. I installed mine in my 73 scamp this spring. I love it. It just works. I only had to use an air hammer to fit my 727. no cutting involved. Early models require more work.

Installed mine into a 68 Barracuda on the stock crossmember, onto the back of the A833.
After it was in the tunnel, I just pushed it up as high as it would go, found and marked the tight spots, puller her down, and clearanced the tunnel with a BFH.
When I found that the cross member was still low, I clearanced the tunnel some more.
And it was still too tight. Eventually, there was no going any higher, so I slotted the crossmember holes and dropped her down a tad to prevent rattles.
-----------------
the 727 ratios are 2.45-1.45-100 and GVod is .78
the splits are .59-.69-.78; which is a very nice progression.
Most guys or at least some, focus on the .78 as not being enough, but if you inshift it prior to going into Direct, your ratios are ;
2.45-1.45-1.13-.78 ... thus your splits are
.59-.78-.69; you see the .69 there, lol?
and you get the short 2-3 shift
With 3.91s, shifted as above, your roadgears are;
9.58-5.67-4.42-3.05
But you will have to bypass the slow-azz computer on this split-shift.
This makes 65=2500@ zero slip/ perhaps 2600@5% slip,
and at the top of second, 60=4700@10%
but if you power-shift from First into GVod instead of Second; then 60=6200 in First-over at 10% slip with 27" tires.
Since with 3.91s your starter gear is so deep, you can use the GVod to fine tune your rpm at 60 mph to suit your cam, with perhaps a lil less rear gear.
For instance;
With 3.55s; this will get you 5630@10%,
and 65=2350@4%;
but your starter is down to 8.70 so you might need some stall to satisfy your launch. But that will bite you a bit in the gas-mileage department, if you don't have a lock up.
The other option is to put second gear where you want it.
For 60=5500 in Second at 10% slip would take 4.56s. But yeah, the starter gear is now 11.14 a tad high, and cruising is 65=3000 again.
The final option is to just run what you got and that's that.
-----------------
As for me; for a short time, I ran a Commando 4-speed with 3.23s and got a starter gear of 9.98, and she cruised at 65=2060. 60mph was 4680 in Second or 5870 in First over.
I have tried many other rears but finally settled on 3.55s.

Enjoy!

I called Gear Vendors to inquire about my order.....
ONE month before it ships......
Damn.....they could mention that before they take $3200 from a feller........

I put one in an E body in 2005, and had to beat the hound out of the tunnel to get it to fit. I have heard the OD unit itself is a bit smaller now, so maybe yours will go in easier. You can buy an adapter u joint to go from the GM slip yoke that comes with it to your Mopar driveshaft, or just buy a new end for your driveshaft that matches the GM yoke since you will have to have the driveshaft cut anyway. I wired a bypass wire, to go from the foot switch to the shift solenoid…in case the electronic box takes a dump. The electronic box and the shift solenoid are the most problematic on the older units, so hopefully they have that all worked out by now. Good luck with the install….it ain’t that bad!

i think i read somewhere that if the O.D. is on and you if you shift into reverse that it can damage the unit . if that's the case it is not idiot proofed enough for me . they are very nice , good luck with the install.

They have electronic control to prevent that. I consider mine idiot proof. I set it and forget it. I just deactivate it for racing.

That is correct;
If you bypass the lil computer, to split shift the unit, it will shift instantly any time the pressure reservoir is ready to go. But if you forget to disengage it in reverse; poof! she's busted.
This was a very expensive mistake for me as they will not sell the tools to take it apart myself.
With an automatic, you should be able to use the back-up switch to dump the pressure, thru a relay.
But I have a manual trans so I just wired a little green LED into the "on" circuit, and put the light on my tach. So anytime the unit is engaged I see the green light. Then I "trained" myself to always look at the tach before I let the clutch out in reverse. So far so good.

That's a good purchase IMO... People have spent alot more on alot les lol.... I will be curious Z to how it fits....
