Srt-68 Barracuda

I wish I had some help like you got...

Well let me tell you something. He hasn't had much help. While I have been assigned to the position of bartender, spiritual advisor and general P.I.A., I must admit that I have been of little use. He is doing this car by himself.

(well I helped a little bit)

That's OK

I have confusedcuda to do the same......When I need someone to throw wrenches at and bring me beer while I curse and laud the MOPARS that I love. He helps out when I need it most and brings me his Mopar problems that I can handle in a second to make me feel like I know my shizzle.....that helps my confidence and gets me back on track with my major issues.

All of these projects that we all undertake demand major time, major comityment.....it's either working OT to pay someone to do the things you can't or you yourself working the late nights doing what you can to make your dream a reality.

Every Batman needs a Robin.......sayin?.......Only PLEASE.....PLEASE leave your tights at home.

Got a question about when you cut in your doors, jambs, and under the hood.

I didn't notice that you cleared anything yet. Now PPG says 24 hours to clearcoat which I know is false, but how long do u let the jambs, etc sit before clear? Do you add more base then clear?

I'm trying to follow your technique somewhat because I don't want any tape lines.

One more. Once the doors are aligned do you block sand everything one more time to make sure everything is perfect? Oh and what grit do you sand to for your metallic base?

Dave

Initial cut-in; base coat jambs and undersides of hood and trunk. Stab all bolts into a cardboard box and spray them as well. No clear at this point. If you goof on initial cut-in, finish the repair with 400 grit.

Reassemble and align. Final block entire car.

Spray everything again in base, then clear. Then you begin sanding the damned thing again and again, starting with 800 grit. Minimum 1200 grit before you buff. You can go as high as 2000 grit before buffing if you wish.

Hey 5.7 the car is looking awsome, can't wait to see it shine. I was just looking at the front pic of your dart, is that a camaro spoiler on it? That looks pretty nice, I was considering some sort of chin spoiler fro mine..

Cool thanks. I read somewhere they did a gloss study on initial cutting of clear with 400-600-800-1000. Then flowcoat/reclearing once blocked flat. The highest gloss measured with some crazy expensive machine was the one that was cut flat with 400 then recleared. 600 and 800 where about the same. 1000 was pointless and takes too long to block out. Interesting food for thought.

Hell with your 12 coats that could work out great with the 400 to start since it is clear on clear as far as filling the 400 scratch. Probably help keep urethane wave down too I guess.

This is my first car so I think I'll maybe go 600 but would still be scared to burn through.

Yea your bare metal edges should you get to heavy with your hand.....easy to do sayin.....nothing worse than having to respray cause you ruined an edge.

Screeching halt. Out of town til Monday the 22nd. Spent the last few days plodding along on small parts. Exploded view. Stuff strung everywhere. Love it. You know yer getting somewhere when even car guys come in they'll say, "what is it?" It's a RootBeerBarelyaCuda. "Huh"? Say that three times fast.

We'll be playing with these until Monday:

An old bird around here just auctioned off thousands of relics like those.

He must of had 10 of those little engines for sale. I wish I could have got one they are so cool.

I was told by a reliable source (Chrysler Technician) that the LX computer needs to "see" all, every single stinking one, of the sensors in the harness (front bumper to rear bumper) in order to function. That's why I abandoned a swap into my V6 SXT Magnum.
I think that's why the truck harness & computer works better than the LX harness.

Might want to check it out to avoid frustration later.

Still at a screeching halt. I'll get back on it next week. Needless to say for those who have asked, I will not be taking RootBeeraCuda to Carlisle. I guess I have to suffer by taking The Dart. Maybe this year I can actually sit next to my car and enjoy a few cold ones.

WORKED.....YOU SLAVED...YOU MADE IT RUN.....IT'S MILLER TIME.

That's what I told the judge. He didn't believe me either. He also didn't believe Or, that 61 in a 35 was a 1st into 2nd shift. Wasn't even done with first! I think the cop's radar gun was defective! Yeah or uh it read the airplane passing by overhead, yeah that's it he was reading that airplane! $500 ticket later ugh. I do miss that nova tho. Ticket and traffic school were almost what I paid for the car!

*** Disclaimer to those younger and more impressionable than I: big brother is watching you and would love to write you a pretty pink or yellow ticket so that it's not only your hard earned tax dollars supporting his payroll and justifying his overtime.
