Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

I had forgotten to mention that if you have the stock ignition, you’ll want to recurve the distributor as well.

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

Between abodyjoe & AJ’s recommendations, those two (distributor recurve and torque converter) will give the best immediate bang for the buck with the most noticeable results.

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

I run early 318 heads with small valves 208/214 delta cam, and 9:1 in a w100 @ 4700 ft. 800 Rochester on a stock spread-bore. Save your money. Pulls from the bottom and hold 85on the freeway with ease 29” tire 3:55. 302 heads aren’t magic.

Diy porting the heads is cheap. If by some chance you can get them flow tested, the flow numbers will help when selecting a cam. Cleaning up any casting slag or imperfections in the new intake manifold and in the ports of the heads. Timing recurve, you can get lighter springs for the...

    273 upgrade to 4bbl?

Yep. That's a beauty of a Dart. A stock 4 barrel and a 500-600 works good. A 4 barrel and a distributor recurve will add some pep for sure. If you want to search for one the LD4B Edelbrock manifolds work quite well and are made for the smaller port 273 heads.

What is a good electronic distributor for an rb/b block?

Dunno if its helpful but I have a new, factory refurbed big block distributor if interested. I bought it thinking it was for a small block but wasnt. Only down side is the electrical pigtail was snipped off for an HEI conversion. Easy fix though, especially if Ray is going to recurve it for you.

What is a good electronic distributor for an rb/b block?

Not to hyjack, Halifax ,would you recurve this one ?

Send your distributor to @halifaxhops and describe your build, he'll check it all out and recurve the distributor to match the build.

    273 or 225?

My Dart slant sounds like a Ferrari with the Dutra Duals and accurate exhaust. It draws a crowd. I have a 66 with a 360 backdated to look like a 273 and I still enjoy this one better. Deck the block to get compression, oversized valves, Dutra Duals or headers, recurve the distributor and more...

What is a good electronic distributor for an rb/b block?

 I've been looking at that one. The add says it's OEM spec. If he will I'll by one to send to him.

Making power out of the 318

4 barrel, duals and a distributor recurve first. Depending on how power hungry you are, that may be all you need. The next step: Depending how radical the cam you install, you will benefit/need a convertor and rear gears. Headers may be on that list as well. Now may be the time to up your...

    Rowdy /6 Timing Curve Recommendations

Timing is advanced only to get maximum pressure when the maximum leverage is on the crank. More timing is not always good. Its simply neccessary because fuel takes time to burn. A faster burning combustion doesn't need to be ignited as early as a slow burning mix. Timing is increased with rpm...

    Distributor recurve for tradesman van

So my buddy’s got a tradesman van wanted to recurve his distributor, because it’s a heavy shortie van, would I just use two heavy springs to bring in the timing a lot later? That way he can get more initial with out ping, it’s a 76 360 thanks

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

This is the way I see it: Distributor recurve first. Dual exhaust next, intake and 4 barrel after that. If that doesn't make you happy you can change rear gears. Remember, higher numbered ratios will make it more peppy off the line but your cruise rpm will also go up and mileage will go down...

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

I believe that you guys ran off the OP. As always a simple question concerning the performance upgrade of a 318 immediately turns into a 360 swap. Going to a 360 actually would increase his budget as he would have to get a 360 then the motor mount bracket and mount on the right side is different...

    Vacuum Secondary Conversion

Good inputs thank you guys. Some of my thinking was based on this thread. The general consensus was that VS was better for an automatic on the street. My plan is to make one change at a time as mentioned above. First the intake manifold. The situation is a little complex as I am moving to the...

Looking for a little advice on the timing numbers I just pulled from my 73’ Duster (backfire issue)

Thank you for all the good info. I think I like either your 1st or 3rd option the best. Would you happen to recommend a specific performance distributor? In the meantime I’ll try advancing it slowly to see if that helps the small amount of backfire happening through the carb.

    318 question

An Edelbrock Performer and an Edelbrock 650 AFB with some headers. Either recurve your present distributor, or get a Mopar HP ignition kit with an HP distributor. Have the heads worked with a fresh valve job and have the bowls blended. Add this cam and it should get the job done. I agree with...

    Timing Advance Sanity Check

Long story short… I have an unmolested distributor with a govenor stamped R11.5 so I should expect to see 23 degrees of mechanical advance with a dial back timing light, right? Other than dirt and grime is there anything that might block the distributor from only getting half of the expected...

    Timing for electronic ignition upgrade

"Bump the timing" NOT TRUE. (Unless the old one was set retarded LOL) The one thing to remember when playing with timing is what is mechanical TOTAL timing? This is when you have the foot to the floor, which dumps all vacuum advance, and the result is initial + mechanical. So when...

Looking for a little advice on the timing numbers I just pulled from my 73’ Duster (backfire issue)

You likely have a bone stock "smogger" distributor with a very long advance curve. What you need to do, to start with is to determine the curve vs RPM and then set out to to make it a more performance curve There are a number of ways 1...But a performance distributor, preferably with...

    So very stuck...

No the rattling went away, I believe it was caused by the advance. Too much on the all in, if I remember correctly it was somewhere around 42*. Once I realized that my distributor had a recurve plate installed, I simply limited my mechanical advance to 14* and moved my initial to 22*. That gave...

    So very stuck...

Do some research on how to set up a vacuum can to ported vacuum if you want to use it on top of your current tune up. If you run it to manifold vacuum it will pull in timing at idle and you WILL need to recurve the distributor from where it is now.

    Rowdy /6 Timing Curve Recommendations

I have 2 of those same ones. One of them I bought NOS a few years ago, it's in my truck now. Just as removed from the box. So far all I have done is to break in a fresh overhaul with it, no miles on it just a couple of hours running in the garage. The 2nd one, same tag number, I've taken...
