    Steering coupler drift pin question

Does anyone know what size the Steering coupler drift pin is? I had my column out and lost the pin. :BangHead: . Already had bought the kit and don't know what I did with the old one. I even had a spare kit somewhere but can't find that either. I think I swept it up last week not realizing I had...

    Borgeson or Firm Feel steering?

Oh and Bergman coupler uses a set screw vs a roll pin. So no more pounding pin in and out to remove coupler from steering box. Back set screw out pull coupler off steering box easy peasy pain free.

    Steering coupler drift pin question

the pin only locates the coupler to the splined input shaft and prevents fore and aft movement. if that breaks you have way, way bigger problems. steering shaft to shoe pin, yeah, different story.

    build thread for jamies dart..:)

Good thing is you don't have to pound a roll pin in and out it that would super suck. The coupler cap, I pre-bent the tabs then squeezed it over coupler. It flexes like a spring type of metal. Super easy that way.

    Steering Coupler

How can you tell a steering coupler needs rebuilt..? Car is not on the road, so can't drive to feel or hear anything, if those are even symptoms. When I took mine apart and compared to the new rebuild kit, I can't really tell a difference in the components...except, the new dowel pin that the...

'69 Barracuda T56 swap, floor, cross member

Yeah I had set screw in coupler tight to steering box splines and pin in coupler to keep shoes from coming out. So I know those shoes slid in that coupler. And cap on coupler with bent over tabs still on there tight. Looking into why reverse lockout module stopped working now? Internal...

Can you help ID my steering coupler?

Just got a 69 Dart I’m chasing down some sloppy steering and first item up is the steering coupler doesn’t have a roll pin in it. I looked up a few rebuild kits on Mancini but don’t look like they would fit. The coupler is different from the one on my 74 (pic with empty bay). Does anyone know a...

    Shear Pins

There's actually another small sheer pin at the top of the coupler that projects down into the coupler. This would keep the shaft from pulling all the way out.

Almost ready... Looks like I'm missing something here to connect the master cylinder to the brake pedal... hmmm. FSM shows Power Booster connections but not how the master cylinder pushrod connects to the pedal for manual brakes. Unless I missed it... which is totally possible, it's a big book...

This just doesn't look "right" (manual steering)

No worries Ironracer..........There is a tiny pin just at the top opening of the coupler that has to be pushed out in order to remove the "guts" of the joint. The big roll pin you are referring to is at the gear box end of the coupler :)

U-joint on steering shaft: float or bolt down?

There are splines that are DESIGNED to slide and ones that are not. The ones on the coupler are NOT designed to slide. WARNING. IM BEING A BIT OF A DICK WITH THE FOLLOWING. As for a pin breaking and causing the coupler to come loose.... Green arrow, the shaft is flat Blue arrow, the pin the...

    440/Schumacher/Borgeson

Got the Borgeson kit wrapped up today. Ended up having to pull the radiator out so I could swap crank pulleys. The instructions for the steering shaft say to drill and pin the shaft into the new coupler, but I don’t have a drill press so I just welded it on. Haven’t driven the car yet because...

    Steering coupler kicking my ***...

It looks really dry. I always lube them up. Some nice gooey, tacky grease might help. Also, maybe try taking the shoes off and flipping them over. It looks like they maybe on wrong. Flat part towards shaft, curved part towards coupler. See this picture from a service bulletin. Here's...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Backreading on the redneck things some of us have done I once broke a locating pin on a rear leaf spring of my 4x4 and had to use come a long to hold axle in place, drove it off the mountain and 20 miles of pavement to buddy's (who was with me) house. Worse than that maybe was the time I broke...

P/S to Manual Steering and Coupler to U-Joint

I just had the pin for the old coupler pressed out and then welded the coupler to the shaft.

This just doesn't look "right" (manual steering)

On the early cars like Vixen, that small pin isn't there. I don't know when they started using it. Mine also doesn't have the large roll pin holding the coupler to the input shaft on the gearbox, but rather a retaining bolt and nut. The early cars were different with a lot of stuff like that.
  25. Ironracer

This just doesn't look "right" (manual steering)

Not trying to be argumentative, but the roll pin is what holds the coupler to the splined steering gear output shaft.

U-joint on steering shaft: float or bolt down?

Your not being a dick at all, sometimes it takes pictures, (and even crayons) to explain facts to people who think a Chinese u joint is a "upgrade" Those type of people should NOT be working on cars.

Can you help ID my steering coupler?

Thanks for the info. I am not sure if the 69 was factory power or manual steering. What throws me for a loop is: The top of the coupler does not have the tabs to install the grease plate like the 74 does. The roll pin hole is at the top of the coupler vs the bottom and it also does not go...

This just doesn't look "right" (manual steering)

Yes sir, i actually was talking about the Hardne Solid pin, that is in the end of the shaft itself (holds those two hardened steel, slightly rounded, but square on the "back", where the Square edges are on the Coupler, Bushings almost? if you want to call em that. I'm not sure what Chrysler...

    Steering Column Install

The way "I" do it: I hang the column by the bracket under the dash loosely. I position the floor plate and start the bolts. Again. Loosely. Since the column can slide up and down until tightened, I start with it "up" and away from the steering box. Then I get out and with someone inside the car...
