Rubber gasket vs. a cork gasket

I was looking at that. Dan has always been the voice of reason. It seems as though that it depends on how you do this, rather than with which material.

Thank you all for your input. Looks like cork it is!

Rubber gasket vs. a cork gasket

Thank you for all of the input! I do not have a torque wrench, so what is the general "rule of thumb" for proper tightening? I have heard that you want to get it finger tight, then give it a couple more rotations with a socket wrench. Is that about right, or not?

Rubber gasket vs. a cork gasket

Hello all, I was wondering which gasket for a valve cover is better: rubber or cork? Or is it just more of a preference? Common sense tells me that a rubber gasket would be better, but wanted to get some expertise before I change it out. I noticed that ther was oil under my car, and that...

    Holley 1945 idle cam issue

There is a "fast idle cam retainer." This piece sits on the outer side of the cam, so that it does not come off. However, I cannot see from the exploded image what it connects to, if anything at all, on the inside of the carb. Right now it is just flopping around.

    Voltage and Ballast Resistor Question

Bill, What exactly do you mean by "bulk head"connectors? I am not familiar with this ten. I have, however, started going through, and cleaning many of the connectors.

    Voltage and Ballast Resistor Question

I changed out the voltage regulator since I had a warranty, and the results are as follows: Ammeter reads high for about 15-20 seconds During this time, if you give it some gas, the ammeter peaks out like it used to After this period, the ammeter goes back to center, and stays steady I checked...

    Turn Signal Flasher

Just a helpful hint: A couple months ago I ran into an issue with the turn signals on my 74 Valiant. My 4-way hazards would work, but I got nothing from my left and right turn signals. I found a flasher unit right below the steering column, changed it out and nothing happened, I changed out...

    Voltage and Ballast Resistor Question

Hello all, I have noticed that my voltage meter fluctuates with my idle and with the throttle. It reads a bit above normal at normal idle, will kick down a bit when I hit the lights, and will peak out at 40+ when I step on the gas. It used to flux a bit when it was idling, but would go back to...

    Holley 1945 idle cam issue

Hello all, I took a look at the fast idle cam on my Holley model 1945 carb and noticed that the cam is loose. I can push the pin back in and get the cam screw to sit back on the cam. However, as soon as you give it some gas and the cam moves, the cam gets loose again and fall out of place, so...

    Choke Thermostat

I want to replace my choke thermostat. My choke thermostat has a wire coming off of it, but I see that most of the replacement parts do not have this wire. Does this really matter? Thanks! 1974 Plymouth Valiant Brougham Slant-6 225

    Issue with ignition system

I was wondering if anyone had some ideas as to what would cause my car to turn over but not start. I have a 1974 Plymouth Valiant Brougham with a 225 Slant 6. I replaced the coil, ballast resistor, and ignition control module. The spark plugs are good, the distributor cap, wires, and rotor are...

    Fuel Gage is inaccurate

Hello All, A while back my Fuel Guage on my 74 Valiant would always show Empty. I replaced the Sending Unit and now, when I fill her up, the guage will show full. Unfortunately it will go back down to Empty after a few days of driving. Anyone have any insight onto what the problem could be...

    Daily driving an A-body

I agree...I came out of the Field and my 74 Valiant was one of the only cars that started right up. So while others had to wait for a jump I was good to go. I wouldn't necessarily sell your other car, unless it is a "one or the other" kind of deal, as project cars can take some time to fix...

Sorry to hear about your car! I appreciate the advice! I will have to research how to adjust the carb. My wife and kid are going out of town for a month and I got nothing better to do. Its a San Diego car and has been moved from there to Michigan and then to Texas with me. I dont think she...
