^You're giving away a secret. In my experiance a D44 is plenty strong. Thank the 4x4 crowd. You have more options and parts availability than most other axles.
The only direct comparison I've ever been involved in was putting an aluminum flywheel in a Supra turbo. Stop and go traffic took some finesse, but the car was quicker for sure.
I'm only aware of two 727 output lengths. Regular with a slip yoke which could be considered long compared to a 904, and short with either a hog nose or no extension housing at all. I'd say you have the right one.
