    15x8 & 15x6 (74 Dodge Dart)

As best I can recall, they are about 3-3/4". Standard, nothing special ordered, out of the catalog American Racing Torque Thrust IIs.

Here it is with the BFGs. I don't have pics with the new Cooper Cobras.

Need ideas on where to get a set of tires...

Yep, you might check on BF Goodrich Radial T/A. My son has them on his Dart Sport, although his are 205/60R15 and 235/60R15.

    15x8 & 15x6 (74 Dodge Dart)

My son's '74 Dart Sport has 15x6 on front with 205-60R15 and 15x8 on rear with 235-60R15. Had BF Goodrich Radial TA for 36,000 miles, now Cooper GT Cobras mounted on American Racing Torque Thrust IIs. Depending upon wheel backspacing, you have plenty of room for both front and back. The rears...

    Let's talk backspacing

Yep, you can see that we measured from the bulging tire wall to the leaf springs. Thanks for the link, but you may notice that my drawing was basically taken from the final sketch in their article. I have been back and forth there a dozen times double checking my measurements and calculations...

    Let's talk backspacing

Brian, Perhaps, but I don't have the A-body rear, stock or otherwise, it is a longer one from a B-body. 4-1/2" backspacing would only be 3/4" inboard more than what it is now. That would barely clear the wheel well lip - the tire is currently lined up right under the lip. That's why I was...

    Let's talk backspacing

Here is a drawing I made of the measurements taken on Aaron's '74 Duster project we are building. This is a stock '69 B-body 8-3/4" rearend (not narrowed and perches not moved in), with American Racing Torque Thrust II 15"x8" rims and 235-60R15 BF Goodrich T/A Radial tires. The goal is to...

    How much clearance is enough?

With wider-than-stock tires, how much clearance do you guys have between the back of the tire and the edge of the leaf springs? Would 1/2" clearance be enough to compensate for roll during cornering?

Anyone have trouble with T/A radials?

Alright now, we don't need encouragement like that from the peanut section. I'm his dad, the car is in my name for now, I'm paying for insurance, and he is a broke college student. He also knows I won't pay for traffic tickets or tires prematurely worn out by abuse. Aaron knows which side of...

Anyone have trouble with T/A radials?

Either you missed the main point of Aaron's original post, or you don't put many miles on your car. :yawinkle: His BFGs have only given him 32,000 miles (3 years) of service. On average, that's about 10K to 11K per year - a fairly reasonable amount of annual driving. If you drive the same...

    Spare tire pic ?

That sounds about right. A 205 tire should be approximately 8" tall and would stick up a couple of inches above the 6" well. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the info.

    Spare tire pic ?

A 215 tire is probably about 8-1/2" wide at the tread, so there's no way you'll get it to fit down into a 6" deep spare tire well. That's the problem I've run into - the well is too shallow.

    Spare tire pic ?

Yep, you're right, Johnny. Since Aaron's Dart has 205-60-R15 in front and 235-60-R15 in back, there isn't a single tire size we can use for the spare that is equivalent to both. However, I was hoping to find one that is close enough to their two sizes that also would fit into the tire well...

    Spare tire pic ?

For you guys with the fiberboard cover, does it lie flat against the trunk floor or is it raised slightly by the tire? If flat, what is the correct tire size to fit in the spare well? Anyone know why some cars have the full-size board and others have a smaller one (approximately 12"x12"...

Post your wheel and tire combos.

Still looking for a spare tire

And it fits down below the trunk floor surface, so the mat lies perfectly flat? If the tire height is 25"-26", I'm in luck. That is the answer I've been looking for. Thanks, I'll start looking for one, Jerry

Still looking for a spare tire

Yesterday, I think I saw another possible answer to my problem. At a local tire shop, we tried a 16" donut spare with a 145/80-16 tire. It fits the spare well just fine, but the wheel's bolt pattern was some type of multi-lug pattern and nothing close to our LBP. So, did Chrysler use 16"...

Still looking for a spare tire

And that's from a '96 Cherokee? Now, that's what I believe might work. It's a shame your tire well is covered, or you could tell us how well it fits. Know anyone else close by with an A-body????? Jerry

Still looking for a spare tire

No posi, simple 2.76 vanilla 7-1/4". The fiberboard cover is perfectly flat. I like the idea of the space saver spare. Maybe I can check the few salvage yards for one of those. As long as it fits the 5 on 4-1/2" LBP. I think the depth is only 6". I'll check tonight and let you know. Jerry

Still looking for a spare tire

Original tire? Not exactly sure. I have to trust the original owner replaced (if ever) them with the same size. The ones we pulled off were 195-70 (I think) R14, on plain ol' Dart / Duster slant six - nothing special - 7-1/4" rear - drum brake car. I think the original tire designation was...

Still looking for a spare tire

We still haven't been able to find a wheel/tire combination to fit down into the spare tire well of Aaron's Dart Sport. We have the fiberboard tire cover and trunk mat, and want them to lie flat. He has 235-60 R15 in back and 205-60 R15 in front. By my calculations, the back is 26.10" tall...

How does the jack and stand stow away?

I see in your sig that you have A-body parts for sale. Happen to have any spare tire hold-down hardware? Jerry

How does the jack and stand stow away?

I have a large spring that apparently is used to hold the jack in place. I just can't figure out what it hooks to on the jack. Can someone send me a pic or two that shows how the jack, jack stand, and lug wrench stow away in Aaron's Dart Sport? Thanks, Jerry

    American Racing

I recently put 15"x8" (235-60R15) on the back and 15"x6" (205-60R15) on the front of my son's '74 Dart Sport. It has LBP disks and rear end from a '76 Duster. They look fantastic. We have it entered in a car show tomorrow, so I'll be taking pics to post. Stay tuned, Jerry

I've had enough of this wheel/tire nonsense!

Well, gentlemen, after many weeks of consternation over this issue, it all becomes academic tomorrow. We wound up getting Torq Thrust II's -- 15"x6" with 2mm offset (website says 3-3/8" backspace) and 15"x8" with 18mm offset (website says 3-3/4" backspace). Tomorrow, the tires will be in that I...

I've had enough of this wheel/tire nonsense!

Hey Giggy, What are the tire sizes you are running? Is everything stock on your Duster? What rear end (7.25" on mine)? Do you know your wheel offsets? I do like your look, but I think I would prefer to have same diameter wheels. Jerry

I've had enough of this wheel/tire nonsense!

Here is what I have decided on (I think): FRONT Cragar SS 15"x6" with 215/65R15 (3-3/8" backspace and 26" height) BACK Cragar SS 15"x7" with 245/65R15 (4-1/8" backspace and 26.57" height) Last call for anyone to tell me any of this will be a problem. I have to do something very...

I've had enough of this wheel/tire nonsense!

I've been trying for a while to make a final decision on the wheel/tire combination for my son's '74 Dart Sport. Thought we might go with American Racing Torq Thrust II 15x8 rear and 15x6 front (large bolt pattern). Their website application guide only recommends 15x7 as widest wheel for his...
