    "Trim Grade/Class" VIN decoding?

The interior trim code influences MSRP not the other way around. I had a pair of 66 Dart 2-door hardtops. One was a 270 (LH), the other was a GT (LP), The plain 66 Dart would have been an LL. The Dart upholstery could have been feature-less all vinyl or cloth and vinyl, and it had rubber...

    Ash tray/ Somtimers intervention needed

My intermittent Alzheimer's is acting up. I removed ash receiver assembly to do some work behind the dash and can't remember how to re-install it. I searched for help, but photos are not available. (Note to self: Photos that are linked into FABO from Photobucket, et. al. can vanish. Those that...

    what are these called?

For the description, try nut. More specifically; Nut, front seat hinge cover, att screw, 6029 501. That's as close as I could come using the parts manual. The parts manual has a bunch of seat illustrations, some of which show a cover, but there is no illustrations of it. Hope this helps.

    Carpet Question

Generally it will regain shape. Suggest laying in carpet as intended. Put weight on corners, joints. Then expose area to a heat lamp. Since you'll probably do one side at time, when comes to doing the other side, leave the weights on the first side. Find another set for the second side...

in need of a new steering wheel

The smallest Mopar wheel I've run across is a 13½" Tuff wheel. It works great with power steering, requires way too much effort to turn a quick ratio manual box. It still requires a fair amount of upper body strength to twist a slow manual box.

    Door panel restoration and re-dying

Good advice from BadSport. May want to assess condition of vinyl first. Look at back of door panel where upholstery is wrapped around. If it is stiff and easily cracked the re-glue effort may not go well. X2 on adhesion promoter! I like the SEM product line, but there may be other good ones...

Bench Seat Column Shift Vs Bucket Console Shift

I tend to agree with YellowDart72 in that preference varies with life stage. All through HS, I would have loved a floor shift and a console 95% of the time. When I went to the mountain to watch submarine races, I was very glad to have a column shift and a bench seat. I'm at a point in life...

    Modern seats and shoulder belts

I put front shoulder belts from Dodge vans into my 72 Demon and 73 Dart Custom. The van belts are long enough for a two-door and there is enough room on the inertia reel for it to work on the 4-door, too. The inboard link is almost too short for use with a bench seat, however. The reel has to...

How many of you without a dash pad? Now With Pics

Nice job on the add-on gauge panel. I have done a couple of dash pad replacements with caps. The first I had enough of the original pad to bond the cap to it. The second, all I had was the frame that the pad should have been on. I put the frame in the cap and filled the void with Great...

1973 "poverty" Duster with rubber floors - what kind of floor mats?

Looking at my 72 Dart documentation, rubber flooring came standard on everything except the Swinger, Dart Custom, and Demons with bucket seats. According to my literature, there were no factory mats per se. Mats for the Dart would have been distributed through Mopar to the dealer's parts...

How to remove steering wheel in a 72 Dart?

If all you want is the steering wheel, don't mess the coupler. Remove the nut behind the steering wheel and use a wheel puller. Most big box parts stores will loan the puller. The coupler is simple but messy. If you manage to break one of the tangs that hold it together, you now have a...

    Speedometer cable length?

I hate buying stuff twice. Thanks guys. I guess I'll have a spare for a while. Went looking. Rock Auto and Napa showed only cut-to-length universal kits. So I went looking for a part number to cross for a specific fit. Eureka! The magic answer is 63" for an A-body with a 904 and no Auto...

    Speedometer cable length?

I broke the speedometer cable in the 72 Demon (LA 904). I've gotten bunches of little shards of the flex cable out of the outer tube, which is good from the debris stand point, bad from the perspective of trying to replace. I have a replacement cable, I just don't know how long it needs to be...

Which style carpet and how does it compare between suppliers?

Sounds good. I used jute for backing but you could as well use Acoustamat or something like it. The carpet comes folded and rolled in the box. It's a good idea to roll it out and just let it sit out for a while. A hair drier (gun style) is a good heat source, too. You may want to have...

Which style carpet and how does it compare between suppliers?

The ACC stuff is good quality. It holds up well under everyday usage. It's not too difficult to install, just have to take time and be systematic. When you ask the question best, I have to ask what kind of car is it and what are your goals? The 72 and earlier cars used a 100% Nylon loop...

    LED dash lights

The only issues I've had with the LED lights is having to install them twice because of the polarity issue and not having very much range on the dimmer. I'm using Whiteface gauges in the Dart with red LED. When I first tried it out, the needles were nearly invisible with the lights on. I...

re-chroming plastic chrome strip on door panels?

I've used aluminum tape from Lowe's. Apply is like a decal except use a burnishing pen/pencil to get it to conform to the underlying plastic. Carefully trim with a utility blade. It may not be a shiny as mylar, but IMO it's more durable. Besides, it was what I had at the time that would do...

Rubber mats were not installed with glue. If you insist, use rubber cement or RTV silicone. Otherwise, you may never get the mat back up should the need arise. Wjajr's tips are good. I use jute padding under carpets and rubber mats, similar to the factory. I've seen it online, in craft...
