I would add it if you have a clutch type, the cone is not as critical even though it's recommend. Use the ford stuff it's like $6 for 4 oz.

DEX-MERC, with the kevlar faced clutches. A&A racing transmissions also said it does a better job of lubricating all the other parts of the trans than type F. Said wont see more than a thou or two difference in ET between the two!

the sure grip will work in any case, be it cone or clutch. but you need the ring and pinion for the specific case so your 741 R&P will not work in the 742

741 was mostly used in the a bodys.

Use castrol dexIII/mercon. It was recommended to me buy a well respected mopar trans guy in my area. The extra money is better spent on a cooler and a external filter.

I would make sure your shifter linkage is adjusted correctly. Otherwise no reverse may be the reverse servo, it's a common problem on 727's one way to tell it's the reverse servo is if all the forward gears work but when you back off the gas there is no engine braking.

Also by a local trans guru a lot of us mopar guys use in my parts. Probably the best you can use would be Mobil 1 synthetic. The newer trans with electronics and solinoids are pretty sensitive to having the correct oil in it.

if its slipping or flaring and if the fluid is dark and burnt smelling forget it, might as well use the filter and oil with the rebuild. if it shifts fine and the oil looks ok change it, the filter only catches bigger 80micron and up bolders so i like to use a Magnefine filter after the cooler.

DR diff recommends 85w 140 conventional with a bottle of the ford FM. I'm sure lakewood is just castrol, valvoline, Pennzoil, etc.. I think any 75w 140 synthetic or 85w140 will work just fine. I used Torco RGO racing gear oil conventional with the ford FM very happy with it.

Try some 85w140 with ford FM. Most likely it's the gear and will have to live with it.

Dump the fluid and fill with conventional 85w140. I like Torco RGO. Mine had VERY slightly noise, after the change it's pretty quiet.

I was thinking 3.73 or 3.55 would be perfect for my future 420+" stroker. I guess you can look at it from you driving style, all stoplight to stoplight 3.91 or 4.11 any highway or longer drives 3.73 to 3.23.
