Time crunch & no spark :(

Sounds like no power to the ign box while in START position. Check that first. Needs to be power in both START & RUN key positions.

    valve cover gaskets

Sand off the chrome under the flange where the gasket will sit. It will give the gasket something to hold on to.

Reference pics and help needed for 69 340

There's a LOT of info in this thread. I made this car as accurate as I could; duplicating factory inspection marks, using all original fasteners etc. Look through the thread as there's a lot of pictures within. George http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=28844

Car wont start sometimes... need help.

Put the single point distributor back in it. Dual points are for HIGH rpm, not street rpm anyway. Besides that, it's old technology anyway, and like was said in another post, the Mopar electronic distributor is far superior. If you insist on the dual point set up, my GUESS would be the points...

    help me identify this part

I don't know what Mopar called it, but GM called that a TCS system whereas the timing wouldn't advance (through the vacuum advance) until the car met certain conditons. It was part of an emissions system that (GM at least, maybe all 3?) started in 1972. Thats my guess anyway based on your...

    Installing engine and need help.

The engine is supposed to be "off center" towards the passenger's side of the car by ROUGHLY 1-1/2". George

    OMG...Lifter tapping??

Original poster- Check for a header or other exhaust leak. They sould like lifter noises at times. George

    Idle high

Thats a LOT of initial timing, but your problem sounds like a vacuum leak. Good Luck. George

    Where does this bushing go?

Alignment dowel for the head? I can't see the part in question, just throwing this out there. George

    Knock and smoke

No way those are piston parts. How the hell would they end up in the lifter valley? That makes NO sense at all. Keep lookin bud. George
  19. George R

    Knock and smoke

Anytime you reuse a cam & lifter set, the lifters must go back onto the same lobes they were in the other motor. This would explain the ticking sound (and, possibly, a worn cam lobe) but it wouldn't explain white smoke from the tailpipes. White smoke USUALLY means there's coolant in the...

What should my timing be set at to stop pinging at wot

My stock 69 Dart 340/727 had the same cylinder pressure as you and a stock cam, with the original AVS, and didn't ping at WOT, or at all for that matter. If it doesn't ping until the RPM is high, try to limit the mechanical advance in your distributor. No need for crazy octane snake oil or a...

    Bolts

Anchor was the name of the manufacturer that supplied the hardware to Chrysler and GM. A lot of early (pre 84) Corvettes use Anchor bolts in various places. George

    Pulling my hair out!!!

If it runs at higher RPM but won't idle it sounds like a vacuum leak from here. The timing marks are off the balancer when you put the light on it because of the advance due to the high RPM. Good Luck. George

    machine shop in ct

I dunno bruther. I remember Don the old man running at CT Dragway back in the 70/ early 80's. He did a few SBC's for me over the years, but I haven't had any work done there in about 10 years. He's kinda like a "local legend" if you will. I was at Lebanon Valley Dragway last weekend, and there...

    pcv valve removal

Ya should probably replace the grommet anyway, because if it's that hard it's probably gonna leak oil. Good Luck. George

    pcv valve removal

The rubber grommet is probably hard as a rock. Leave it in there for now until you buy a new grommet set, then cut the old one out with the valve and replace the whole thing. George

BBD will not idle, AT ALL.

Sounds like the spark plugs are too cold. What plug is in the car? George
