Nice score! I picked up an open 489 with 3.23's for $35 a few weeks ago.....I couldn't leave without that one! I had a 741 first, but the 489 will be replacing it shortly.:burnout:

There's an A body 8-3/4 rear for sale locally that has a 741 centre section with 276 gears. Housing, Axles, aftermarket rear sway bar, backing plates, brakes...all is there. My questions are: 1) Can any centre section type be swapped into the housing? 2) Say I want the better 742 or 489...

Did the 904 only come with small blocks and /6's? How do you tell the difference between them. The reason I am asking, is that there is one for sale locally and I want to make sure it's the right one. Thanks.

How can you tell the difference between a BB 727 and a SB 727? What are the bell housing sizes? Is there any casting #'s I should look for? There are a few 727 trans for sale local and I want to make sure I buy the right one. Thanks. Graminizer
