    Converter and gears

Good luck with what ever you do..............however I am some what mystified; after putting a combination like this and it looks stout; that you are clueless as to what would be appropriate for converter and gear I'm dumber than a box of rocks...........I'll say 3.90's and 4500 rpm

Anything wrong with the 8-3/4 "741" case?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 741 chuck other than the lack of gear sets. Factory did make sets down to 5.13, long , long shot to find a good used set, 3.55, 3.23, and 2.76 much more common. Current aftermarket support ratios are 3.55, and 3.73. Any claimed weakness is horsesh!t...

    7 1/4 to 8 1/4 swap

I think for simplicity's sake, take the rear, shock plates, and drive shaft from the 75 car...........straight bolt in with no hassles. Before installation, pull the cover, look at the ratio and discover if sure-grip or not, change the diff fluid Good luck

    help transmission

    help transmission

Question, is this column or floor shift? 78 Cordoba, transmission is most likely a lock up From a linkage perspective you could swap in a 66 steering column and get all the linkage that goes with it, OR use an aftermarket floor shiftier and linkage, you would still need kick down linkage in...

    Torque Converter/Engine Disconnect

Question.......what does not "look" right IMOP it is not easier to pull engine and tranny as a unit, engine by itself is straight up and down in and out of engine compartment, put a floor jack under tranny for support and angle adjustment. Your mounts are biscuit style; remove mounts from...

    Question 8 1/4 rear end

One approximation if it is a sure-grip rear is to jack car up get both wheels off the ground, put car in neutral, rotate wheel one turn, count number of turns of drive shaft.....approx 3 1/4 turns would be 3.23, approx 3 1/2 would be 3.55, OR look for a tag under a cover bolt, OR measure tire...

    8 3/4 posi unit change

It's not THAT hard to do. Get a FSM or at least the section on replacing the gears in an 8 3/4 center section. Go to Harbor Freight get a magnetic base for a dial indicator, and a dial indicator. Just saying this as you did not say you had equipment. You are gonna want something secure to...

How to determine year of 8.75 center section...??

If you are going to a spool, it does not matter what bearing are on the carrier that is installed presently. The 2 different bearing sizes you mentioned go some thing like this: all open diff and cone type suregrip units take one bearing, the clutch type suregrip takes the other, they...

    Pinion spline on 489 case

Long shot way to tell the difference is the size of the pinion nut, 1 1/4 is 10 spline, 1 1/8 is 29 spline........although I kinda look at it doesn't really matter what is in there right now as when you buy your new gears, buy a yoke that matches spline count of the pinion you buy, problem solved.

904 trans: threads for nss damage

A couple of possibilities come to mind: 1. Here in the states, Loc-tite makes an epoxy type thread repair kit, net strength is 80% of original. You may have something similar there in Germany. 2. Locate a machine shop that will make you a bushing that you can screw or press into the case...
