Has a lot of old school hot rodding been lost?

Today there's so many "bought" cars around. Be they finished drive cars or pro built show cars rather than home built. Great if you have the money, or no skills! I can understand it with outright show cars as the required standard is so high today. But I like fabricating and achieving what I can...

Street Freaks, Customs, Rods, Street Machines...60's 70's 80's

Considered by some as Mopar & not by others! My first V8, 1971 Rambler Rebel, 1 of 100 New Zealand built that year. The one I shouldn't have sold. Not fast but quite quick and sounded fantastic, in fact the nicest sounding V8 I've owned!

Who else's car started out as a LOW option car?

Mine's an Aussie 1967 Dodge ute. Heavy duty version of the VC Valiant ute. Based model with 225/3 speed manual only option. No radio, heater, painted bumpers, hub caps & grill. This one has the Valiant grill/headlight surrounds, but the Dodge (2nd image) should have the basic plastic headlight...

    American or Australian?

There appears to be a lot of conjecture as to what a CKD really means…..it appears that people are taking it that it’s just some basic parts and the rest was Australian there by taking away the Valiant’s American heritage…..others believe the CDK was the entire car and that no, or very little...

What do you think about this car

Would love to chop the top but rego will be giving me a hard enough time as it is! Reg's here would make a chop almost impossible today. Shame really it would set the car off nice. Looking at Budnik X - Series ice aluminum wheels as on the cover of the latest Summit catalog. Rear handles are...

What do you think about this car

Hi all, the car below is the same model as I'm building and it's basically the same colour as I'm planning on useing. What are your thoughts, good or bad, doesn't matter. Just looking for a cross section of opinion! I'll be running 17 or 18" billet wheels so the overall look will be more Street...

    gas tank filler tube

I'm building a 62 Plymouth Valiant and fitted a tank from a VF Pacer, basicly a Dart in the US. It has a nice flat filler tube that fits in the floor. I used a 68/69 Barracuda recessed flip filler.

How bad is this tire/gear combo killing me??

It’s interesting to read about so many of you being interested in the best E.T you can get by going for the lowest ratio you can then complaining/commenting!! about open road revs. Aussie Street machine magazine ran a test day with a strip based Holden ute. Numerous passes with 4.11:1 diff...

    Is Your Wife Supportive?

Mine knew about my car addiction when we met. Over the years I’ve built her two cars and she enjoys the scene as much as I do! We’ve been showing and cruising cars together for 20 years now, and love every minute of it. She was the one to tell me to buy my current project, a 1962 Plymouth...

How much $$$$ have you spent?

Thats Aussie dollars so the way things are at the moment that would be a few thousand more in US dollars. If you're doing it do it properly even if it takes a little longer. I have bought numerious NOS parts from the states as well as aftermarket things like my vintage air. Normally better...

How much $$$$ have you spent?

My 1962 Plymouth Valiant has soaked up around $23,000 so far. That bought a good rust free body, 2012 alloy V6 and o/d auto, fully rebuilt disc brake diff, all suspension parts, Dakota digital VHX gauges and Vintage air. Still to fund is front discs, panel and paint, wheels and materials only...

    Anyone own an AMC?

Way back in the day, I owned this 1971 Rebel 304. What an engine,304,343,360,390,401 all used the same block and were full interchange able. Stanard with triple angle valve seats many with high flow heads. The little 304 pulled 6,000rpm with ease and still could return 25mpg at 70 mph. The sound...
