New Crossmember for the Missile's 545RFE

Here are the pics of the modified cross member. I got most of the design from Tincup. The 'H' member under the tranny, replaces the piece that bridges over the tranny for stiffness. Its made out of two pieces of 3"x3/8" barstock, one of which is the mounting surface for the 545RFE. Andrew

Next,I went and made cross sections at key points and peeled the floor open like an onion. I then worked everything back to the mockup tranny and welded all the seams. Next is getting the tranny in and getting the cross member remade. Andrew

    45RFE for the Missile

As it happens, I had to call the dealership to verify that what I was buying was what I wanted. The guy I got on the phone has a Dodge Dakota with a 45 in it. He has a twin turbocharged 750Hp motor and has had no problems with it taking the abuse. There a number of companies that offer upgrade...

    Cutting down an axle tube

First of all I asked joey to remove the other post which was in the wrong forum. Secondly, PH before they made the jigs, they did the process. And have been doing so, say since the fifties. Look Im not doing this for other people, and if welding on your axle will ruin it and make it useless, I...

    Cutting down an axle tube

I posted in the wrong forum, this is the right place I thought I would post pics of the B-sectomy. After measuring the axle tube and figuring out how much needed to be removed from the length of each side I blued and scribed two lines around the tube with the amount to be removed between...

Putting a modern rear axle in an a body?

Thanks for all the replys. This line of thinking started from not wanting to pay $800+ for rear discs on my 8 3/4. I just ordered a welder so I will be getting back into the fabrication with a vengeance. However I thought that if the axle from the jeep could be easily used in an A body it would...

    Grafting a jeep cherokee axle w/ 8 3/4

Here is what I know so far. A new disk brake set up for an 8 3/4" axle will run me around $700, I still need to buy a set of new axles for around $200 when I cut the B body rear down to the A body length. Since Im going to cut the axle down anyway, why cant I just get the whole rear axle from...

73, the dimension for the A bodies rear end housings all sizes is WRONG on that chart. All A body axle housings measure 52.625" outside of flange to outside of flange. As per Dr.Diff and as it happens, measuring my old 7 1/4" as well. Andrew

Anyone Put A 545rfe In An A Body?

I found the controller at "Powertrain Control Solutions" their price $750 If they will sell directly to me.Denny @ Sharadon Performance thinks I need a stage two build with tougher bands and clutches to handle the 550 ft/lbs torque. Thoughts on that? 1st 3.00 : 1...

Anyone Put A 545rfe In An A Body?

Someone in one of the threads sent me down this rabbit trail. Ive looked into the 545RFE tranny and it looks apealing as far as gearing goes and strength seems not to be a problem. Has anybody done this swap and what other than structural issues needs to be done to control it. Andrew
