I would suggest keep it as is. I would get a bottle of GM oil additive, or something else with Zinc; and add that to the oil. Have you changed the oil yet?

Here is my "Beater" every day driver. Almost a year old, and just over 6,000 miles on it. 2008 Chevy Aveo 5, 5 speed with A/C as the only option. It replaced a 1994 Plymouth Voyager, that was needing work, my only complaint is I wish the seat went back 2 inches more, LOL.

3 inch u-bolts need a 3 inch centered hole. The used plates I have here, are 3" where the u-bolts go thru, and 3 1/2" side to side center to center. Pics below.
