The brackets they use to connect the cable are a pain in the *** to get to clamp tight against the bottom lip of the pan. I had to use longer bolts and even then it was a pain to hook up the cable. I do not like the design of the cable and brackets for the TCI Shifters.

I had the same issue. I needed to order a replacement cable ($61.00) and got a shorter one (5' I think) and ran it up from the transmission and looped it against the firewall with a couple clips and back under the car through the floor. I have had no issues with it.

I have a TCI transmission in my Duster and needed to replace the low band and now I have a leak somewhere. (Can't see any fluid leaking anywhere) I need to check the fluid every time I drive my car and top it off. I am searching for another transmission.

Shifter is finished!!! Works Great!! Not much room for adjustment on the cable though. Hint: When adjusting the cable , you can make adjustments much easier by removing the clip at the shifter and adjusting the rods at the transmission easier by measuring the travel points on the shifter handle...

Needed to bring the hole out about another 1/4". Will finish up the final installation tomorrow. Need to get 2 longer bolts for the transmission bracket and adjust cable and wrap it up.

You said you had the transmission out of the vehicle. Check the torque converter and make sure it is seated all the way back. if not the starter will have a hard time turning over.

One other question. The instructions say to drill a 1 1/2" hole 3" in front of the front left shifter mount to route the cable through the floor. I drilled the hole and the cable seems to be too close to the mount that holds the cable to the shifter body. The cable would need to be bent at too...

Could be planetary gears in the transmission. But like the previous post indicates, you need to check the easy things first. if they check out fine then pull down the pan and look for any metal in the pan.

I am using two studs on my starter. I also have the Dakota style starter. Much lighter and easier to handle in the tight spaces between the headers and block.

Maybe the shaft is worn out to the point that the seals are not making contact????

I used a very light application on both sides of the gasket and I have had no leaks at all.

I used to run a 904 in my Duster and it was a very reliable transmission. I only changed out to the 727 because I felt that the 727 was a more tourque producing unit in getting the power to the rear wheels. Sorry you have had so many issues with your transmission and believe me you are not alone...
