    340 Engine Shake

I reread this thread and your original post over in the 4-speed forum. You did some mods while you had the engine out but nothing associated with the lower rotating assembly. I rebuilt a 318 for my Barracuda, I had the shop balance it. They had me bring every lower rotating part to the shop to...

    Crank breakers wanted

Driving my 67 Barracuda 273 on the Interstate going 75 MPH, didn’t know I had a cracked sleeve, got water in the oil, burned up the mains, started shaking, then locked up tight. Even broke the #3 main mounting boss right off the block.

Correct exhaust manifold for a 67 barracuda with a 318

Was the 318 even available in a 67 Barracuda?

    340 oil galley plugs

Take this plug out. There should be another smaller plug farther up in that hole that threads into the back of the left side lifter oil galley. If the shop left that plug out, I'll bet that's your problem. The only way I know to get to it is remove that plug I circled. You will need a long...

    SPEEDO PROBLEMS

I had this exact issue with my 67 Barracuda. I have a 4-speed and put on a "replacement" cable. It was 4" too long which was a PITA but the big problem was it didn't have that little ring crimped onto the inner cable near the speedometer end. It worked great for about 10 miles but the cable...

    318 problems

There are several ways to fix this or at least get you close. I'm sure some of the other guys on this forum would have a better suggestion, but here's how I'd do it. Pull all the plug wires and take the distributor cap off. Put your distributor down in the engine (without the cap on) and...

    Restoration woes

I just went through this with my 1967 Barracuda. It had the original 273 Commando but something was wrong with the block. I developed an oiling problem I never was able to find. I rebuilt that engine three times, first time I got 2,000 miles before a rod bearing was knocking. Second time 800...

    built 340

This article was written in 2001 but they took a bone stock 1970 340 and added some goodies one at a time. They wound up with 355 HP from just bolt on goodies. Made over 400 with a cam change. Impressive! http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/mopp-0102-1970-340-high-performance-mill-dyno/

    340 Manifolds, Reproduction, Any interest?

A great exhaust alternative is the only thing keeping me from adding 340-360 heads to my 318 in my 68 Barracuda. I hate headers, nobody makes them that fit, they drag, leak, rust and are a major PITA to install. If I'm going to pay for TTI's I might as well spring for a set of these manifolds...

    Need Help w/ Intake Details for '67 920 Heads on '66 273

If they are indeed 1967 920 heads they will use a 3/8" bolt. I believe the 64-65 heads for the 273 used a 5/16" bolt at a different angle. As long as you are not mixing the early heads with a later manifold or vice-versa, you should be OK. Any 2-BBL 318 manifold should fit, if you want to...

    cracked 273 heads

Also, if he has a 1965 273 the bolt angle will be different on his intake, so if he moves to the "302" heads he will need to swap intakes too.

    318 to 360 questions

No oil pans will not swap between a 318 and 360 because the 360 has a larger main bearing size. You will have to find a CAR oil pan for your 360 because the truck oil pan has the sump in the wrong spot for a car. Other than the oil pan and left side motor mount being slightly wider than the...

    273 mild build cam

Toolman thanks for the post of your car running with the E-4. It sounds nice so I think that's the way I'm gonna go. Several members here agree with you and says it's a great mild cam. In your video it sounds great, so I'm going to run with it. Thanks to all who posted.

    273 mild build cam

I'm kind of in the same boat with my 273 build. I have a 67 Barracuda Convertible with a 4 speed that I rebuilt in 1995, basically stock using the Comp HE-252-H and it is VERY stock. I'm in the process of pulling the engine for a performance gain but since I use this car in parades I don't...

    Erson Cams Quality Discussion

I love my Erson cam. I have an Erson E-4 in my 273, 4-V, Formula S, 67 Barracuda converitble. Some punk in a rice-grinder with one of those exhaust pipes that make it sound like a chainsaw thought he was going to beat me to the highway entrance ramp the other day......... I think not!!!

    273 stalls when down shifting

I agree with checking the float level. I have a Commando 273 in my 67 Barracuda and it always did the same thing as yours is doing, sputtering, running rough and finally dying at a stop sign or when I slowed down to turn a corner. I checked the float level and to was way too high. Once I got...

    67 Cuda 273 replacement options

I'm running the original 273 in my 1967 Barracuda "S" Convertible. When I rebuilt it (after 232,000 miles) I had to bore it .020 and swapped in a Comp Cams bumpstick that was just a tad hotter than the original. The machine work was top notch and after new pistons, cam, bearings, gaskets, etc...

273 how far below deck are the stock pistons?

Here is a picture I took of my 273 .020 over and the measured depth in the hole for each piston. This was a stock rebuild except for the boring to clean up the walls. Hope this gives you some idea of the variation between cylinders and ballpark the depth in the hole.
