67 Cuda "No Spark" Problem Solved.....

WOW............That is a BIG savings over Painless............ ..........Maybe painless is using special gold plated copper wire....:D

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Yeah, all the voltages and wire runs were checked today......... The problem was found in a circuit of the bulkhead connector....it lost connection NOT at the terminal itself, but on the engine bay side harness WIRE crimp......said it may have been redone at one time........wasn't...

67 Cuda "No Spark" Problem Solved.....

Well, my mechanic called and said to pick up the Cuda about 2 hours after I had the wrecker drop it off. I helped him run the voltage checks and such (I turned the key....tough job, but somebody's gotta do it).........Then I left while he checked over all the parts and the distributor...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Well, I've been laid up for a long time with my back again.........Finally able to get around to some backed up work and get back to the Cuda "no spark" gremlin............. I bent over the car about a half hour yesterday ('bout killed me) removing the bulkhead connector and cleaning both sides...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

I think you're right about the connector and such......... I don't think it's ever been cleaned........I've been working on one block at a time, but it's a real backache........... I really wish someone had already pinpointed the connection that allows/disallows actual spark to the...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Timing chain is fine, all sounds normal, top dead center is fine, and distributor spins perfectly................even tried a spare distributor from a running Duster, and nothing.

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Yeah, the fuel system is fine......It's shootin' gas like a champ.....and the light does work......checked the plugs for visible spark as well.....nothing. What I wish I could find is a schematic for the bulkhead connector.......and I'm gonna check the grounds again, but my back ain't gonna...

You got ruffled undies because I didn't follow your specific order ? Wow. Ignore away if it makes you feel better. Whatever you think is "best".

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Yeah, that I did.........I'm just wonderin' if maybe one lone wolf in there just isn't making a good contact anymore and finally just pooped out......

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Checking the distributor for any obvious signs of trouble was about the first thing we did.......Nothing out of the ordinary. This morning I swapped out the distributor for the one in the Duster project which I know was working fine.......(instead of rebuilding the one in the Cuda)...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Definitely burning smoke......that coil was HOT and smokin'....... Pick-up coil I'm checking in the morning........ ......and I stop to ask for help because it "helps"........and a LOT of other guys will search the subject, and find the help that I get in the thread, AND find what the...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Other than swapping out the pick-up coil or distributor (I had terrible luck with my Chevy's......absolute junk) I don't know what else to do except get under the dash........ Voltage looked good at the coil........I picked up another switch, but I've never seen one do this in 40 years of...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

What the blank kind of response is that? Seems kinda' clear that I've been swapping out the parts these guys thought might be the problem.......You think? Some guys here actually gave me TIPS on diagnosing the problem too, and I've followed advice.......... So why the BS...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Just plugged in a new ballast resistor, and still no spark. BUT, when I left the key in the "on" position for about 30 seconds, the resistor started to smoke......Really hot stuff......... This MUST be an indicator of something common, it would seem..... Anybody have an idea ? :banghead:

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Just plugged in a new blue box.........Still no spark at all. Next I'm poppin' in a new ballast resistor, then a new ignition switch (which is original)...... (I'm not just throwin' money at it.....I really want extra parts on hand since this is my personal cruiser.......I might get lucky...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Coil lays sideways, but no problems I can see......New coil makes no difference......... That box is 7 or 8 years old now........(it TOO may have grown old before it's time......the stuff sure ain't like it used to be.......)

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

STILL no spark at all........... I had a new coil on the shelf, put it in, and no difference......... What about that ballast resistor.......Can it cause a complete loss of spark? What else other than my "blue box" could be the problem ?? Ignition switch ? (not sure about these old...

CUDA DIED...NO SPARK to PLUGS !!

Drove the Cuda to Church last night, but when I tried to start it, it fired weakly for half a second then quit .........No spark. I covered it up and went home.........just went over to check it out.....Checked all connections everywhere........cleaned terminals.......Cleaned the...

can someone tell me what this gauge is and does

My ol' man taught me to drive by that gauge....... The higher the reading (to the right) while cruising, the less gas you're using. In a mileage competition, these vacuum gauges are a must have. I think they're pretty cool.........Keeps me in constant connection with the "way" I'm actually...

    Electrical Dash Issue?

I agree........In all my experiences with these electrical gremlins, it has ALWAYS been a ground problem somewhere. They don't make SENSE either......the problem can cause really wacky symptoms.

    67 Barracuda Dash Dial lights

Either all of the bulbs in the dash are shot at the same time, OR the 'dimmer' needs replacing.......like a rheostat or resistor coil of sorts in the headlight switch.....It's possible that corrosion has just coated the contact area, but they will usually make sporadic contact at some point and...

    Where to Buy Alternator ??

I need a new alternator for my little 67 Cuda.......WHERE, as in what major supplier, can I buy a good and correct (or very nearly correct) replacement??????? I do NOT want junk or Chinese trash.............. ANY SUGGESTIONS from EXPERIENCE ??

    Is this normal?

I've seen it happen in the old dashes with extreme temp changes.

    Dash replacement bulbs

I read here that someone used the led's in the dash but they were really dim......Just to clarify, there are 2 distinct types of led 194's......I have a bunch of the regular ones, and they stink unless you use them as a "spot" bulb.....they project a small spot straight ahead.......NO GOOD for a...

    HELP Instrument Panel Lights?

You can fix it with some copper foil and solder, BUT the foil is hard to find nowadays...........I've repaired them with wire too, but you have to find that dead short........You're probably looking at a short inside the feeder harness that goes to the gauges..........Wow.......... Sorry for...

    ammeter is bouncing

I have one that does it too...........It acts just like an old 67 style that flickers at a traffic light.......and it's a 74........... Sometimes it's worse than others........sometimes it acts like a normal mechanical regulator would act, and other times it acts wild........ 8)
