I know, I know, I said I wasn’t going to touch this ugly azz intake but I’m not happy at all with how the Speedmaster intake turned out. It’s going on 11 years since I retired from Millwright work and the thought of how long it’s been since I’ve had a tetanus shot kept creeping into my head. We were required to go to the dispensary at work and keep our shots up to date, have blood drawn for lead checks, lung capacity, etc. I flow tested it again on Ethans ported heads and spent 65 minutes gasket matching it and 60 minutes porting

the runners. Doing some plenum work now but I keep reminding myself it’s only a street car engine, it’s only a street car engine. 4 hours later I’m still grinding. Lol.

Grinding away.... LOL. You must have a lot of snow like us :D

Just a little core shift. No biggie.:lol: It's a wonder the performance intakes work as well as they do. If a person is serious, all of them should at least be port matched.

my son bought a 1973 (340) with this thing on it. This is the engine I ported the speedmaster heads for. He came down on the price and my son bought several things from him.

Good thing you have the light on it because that would be one scary black hole!

Well Ugly Betty is starting to take shape. I was hoping to have it done but breaking three cables on my Foredom Grinder slowed me down. I usually break one a year but working on these tight azz ports my burr tends to grab more. Ethan will get a bill for those. Lol. If I’m not shoveling all day tomorrow I should have it done and post up some flow numbers. All I ate today was a few Mellocups and 10 pieces of pepperoni. Thank God I made spaghetti the other day.

Looks good. The intake too! :poke::poke::rofl:

It looks like a cast iron intake that has been out to sea for way to long.
Paint it cast iron color, and people wouldn't give it a 2nt thought..........no, think it would still get attention.

That thing has got more wrinkles and poc-marks than my 92 yo Great-Grandpa had when he died. They used to burn his face-hair off with a torch, once a week, cuz he couldn't shave any more.
Ok that sounded funnier in my head, lol.
Ok yes I'm kidding about the torch bit. but nothing else, lol.

You are faster than I am !

You are faster than I am !

I usually work pretty slow but today I hit it pretty had grinding for almost two nonstop hours. I got an addiction with Facebook and racing websites that drawl my over to my phone way to often. I love the radiant heat in my shop as it makes my sore bones and muscles feel good. I always keep a few snacks nearby so I don’t have to go up the house till I’m done.

You can have all the manifold porting.......

But I’ll take a plate full of that spaghetti

still only have about half of my taste back and almost zero smell from Coronavirus I had during thanksgiving. But the spaghetti still tasted pretty good.

Well I spent a couple of hours on “Ugly Better” trying to fix number 3 and 6 runner that were both really funneled down in the middle. Then I rinsed it off and through it on my flowbench. It should have no problem getting the upper end of our 300-400 horsepower target. Then when he’s ready for more the heads are more than capable with a bigger cam and a ported Victor340. I even threw a coat of paint on her but she may need another coat tomorrow then it’s shop cleanup and on to my 2021 race engine.

Yea that spaghetti looks way better than the manifold before your porting.
Seeing how you're porting for free, you could sell your famous meatballs on a bun out the side door of your shop.
I'd be willing to pay 10 bucks for one. lol
BTW the manifold #'s look good.

Pretty good gains for that intake manifold. There is not exactly a ton of material to carve up into a more desirable shape. The thing I never liked about those early intakes were the attaching screws intrusions in the runners. That’s gotta suck.

Thanks John

Number 3 and 6 were terrible. It took a lot of grinding just to get the burr to touch the wall. They both had a hump on them like a pregnant whale. Funny how I ran one of these back in the 1970’s and never noticed that. Lol. Then I bought an Offenhauser Porta Sonic.

I’m just going to send my manifolds to you. Evidently you love grinding on them, or it’s a form of self flagellation...could be both I suppose LOL.

I appreciate all the numbers. You are THE porting animal for sure!!!!

How about the ported SM numbers next to the ported Torker Numbers.

Any idea what the final tally is on time spent doing the Torker?
