What manifolds are you trying to use?put a 340 in a 1963 dart have no room for headers or manifolds, has any one ever put there headers on the other side ,like drivers on pass side, vice verse ,face to the front ? is it possible need help ?
Are they correct for Early A and the left side faces to the rear?using mopar mounts ,have a set of hp 273 manifolds
I agree, it is like running a two inch water line into a 1 inch adaptor. The 273 exhaust manifolds are a bit restrictive for a 340, especially with 340 heads. Many people have had problems keeping a gasket from blowing out on those too.
I was mildly jesting, but I can say with a 68 X head there will be far more exhaust wanting to leave versus what can leave.LolWell, maybe not quite that bad, but, it's a bit of a bottleneck at higher RPM's. The mismatch on the ports sizes causes some flow problems too.
Don't follow that template. You'll have a hole 2x what it can be. Put them in before your motor and wire them outboard and drop the motor in. It will be very tight but you can get it in there. The best way is to cut a hole and get the front end up. Put the collector in the hole and "screw" the header into the hole, noting where you need to cut so you can just get it in there. Look at some old pics to determine minimum hole size and plan on making a form cut cover that you can screw onto the fender to keep the hole covered. Ir should be available from a member here or online in pdf to maintain dimensions.does any one have a hooker fenderwell header diagram [shows were, and how big to cut holes in inter fender ] or a site ,were i can find it ,i went on hooker site, couldnt find it, putting fenderwell hooker headers on a 63 dart with 340 thanks
Or modify the firewall. Those cars were designed for slant 6's only. The 63 body is different than 64 up. The 64' 273 manifolds will fit, but the firewall is too small to accommadate the standard Distributer/cap
you need a Marine type mopar distributer and cap to clear the firewall.
