Carquest store ordered the kit for my AFB #4305S. The new needle seats in the kit were slightly taller than the originals ( Took quite a while to discover this little difference ). With the needles closed and the float paralell with the top the float wouldn't drop far enough to open the gate. Adjusted to open right put the fuel level too high at gate closed. Some fancy tang bending was required to make them work right. I had to trim the slosh baffle in the bowl a little also.
May not be relevant to yours but couldn't hurt to double check, compare the new seats to those removed. Good luck with it.

My seats were the same height as the originals. I don't understand your post. You bend the float in two different places to affect the float level versus the float drop. Bend it where it attaches to the hollow portion to set the level. Bend the little tab to affect the drop.

I pulled the carb off and took it apart and I think I found the smoking gun.

I turned the air horn upside down with the floats still attached and blew into the fuel line. With just my breath (maybe 3 psi) I could hear air leaking. I put some slight pressure on the floats and it made no difference.

Removed the floats and needle valves and tightened the seats into the bowl. They were not very tight at all. Tightened them up, put the needles and seats back on and then I could not blow air no matter how hard I tried.

Is there some kind of FABO award for bonehead move of the week? :banghead:

While I was in there I adjusted the float level down a bit. Spec is 7/32", I think I'm at 8/32".

Going to drive it to work in a few minutes. Wish me luck.

Drove 10 miles to work with a stop to buy gas along the way. Lots of idling hot while I waited in line to pump. The car is running great. Fattened up the idle just a tiny bit to smooth it out but otherwise no issues.

Now that the tank is full I'd like to go through at least 2 tanks so I can know the mpg prior to the engine rebuild.

Gee. I just checked - adjusted all 4 of my floats today since I wanted the richen the secondaries a bit. Did not check if all 4 needles were tight.

Oh no, I just remember, I forgot to hook up the accelerator pump arms, air cleaner is on and I thought it was ready to go....I hate getting old
