1966 Dart GT Mini Refresh

The firewall is pretty much stripped and got the engine down to the long block. I will adjust the valves before I pull the intake.

Also got the areas that needed attention painted. Next weekend I will fit the new fenders.

Got the suspension disassembled. The aftermarket upper control arm adjusters are junk overseas metal. I am pretty sure I have a set of originals. Otherwise another wanted ad!

I will get theses areas cleaned up and touch up the undercoating.

Yep, that was a PST kit about 15 years ago.
I think the alignment guy over did it a bit too.

The bushings are all in great shape as well as the tie rod ends. The strut rod bushings need to be replaced but i have a couple NOS ones stashed.

He was a Ford dealer tech. You might want to check the torsion bars. They could somehow be in backwards or on the wrong side. I never did look. I wonder if he didn't tighten the strut rods up and then put the car down. Aren't you supposed to snug them and then tighten them down when the car ison it's wheels?

Both struts and lower control arms I never torque until its sitting on the tires and ride height is adjusted. Seen too many twisted bushings. The lower control arm bushings look great though.

I bought the parts and traded a wire welder to the shop for the labor. It took him most of the day to rebuild and align. I came out ok on the deal. My cost on the welder was a few hundred and the car always rode and handled well and no tire wear.

It still drove great, but those disc brakes are a priority!
That will be a nice improvement. There were a couple times when I had to stomp on the pedal and it would lock up all 4. Good they were 10" brakes.

Ah good to see the intake is staying on. The heads were milled and the intake cut to fit so the intake needs to be with those heads. I used the steel shim gaskets with no issue just because I needed thin ones. Fel Pro's may work but I bet the bolt holes won't want to line up without some massaging.

I have steel shim gaskets. I will see if the LD4B fits before I make that decision.

Got the valves adjusted and washed off the fenders and started fitting them. Looking good so far!

I bought a cheap set of valve covers to use as a paint mask when I paint the engine. Bonus was they came with a nice original set of plug wire holders! A little paint stripper to get the original red engine paint off and they will go on the original valve covers.

FYI, those are for 67 valve covers. The 66 holders are individual.
Those fenders look great on there.
