1966 Dodge dart

Congrats on getting a great car! Should be fun with the 4-sp.
If it still has the fender tag near the battery I'm sure that we could decode it for you, it'll tell original motor, trans, colors and some other details.
The 273 "commando/Charger" engines are really cool but since yours sounds like it is just worn out the 318 will be a great affordable swap that isn't too difficult.

[quote Does it have the large rectangular cutout in the driver side rear valance for the Hi-po exhaust?

The 66's had a large rear bumper and no rear valance like the 63-65 cars had so no cutout for the HP exhaust. I believe the Barracudas had a valance and therefore had a cutout.

That vin is too short for a 66.

The short vin problem was answered. The LP23D65 tells us it is a Dodge Dart GT, 2 door ht. with a 273. Model year 1966. The VIN doesn't tell whether the engine is a 2 barrel or HP 4 barrel engine. The fender tag tells the story on that. The numbers under the A and B must be 3 and 2 for the HP engine.(or 32 on the broadcast sheet if you have one. The 5 on the end means it was built in the LA assembly plant. The numbers that are left are just the sequence numbers.

I will check the fender tag this weekend and post my findings.

2 days to complete. Took out the rear end replaced seals and bearings added new gas charged kyb shocks brand new leafs, new brake components, and pressure washed and stripped the housing and all brackets then painted the brackets satin black and painted the housing red, why? cause I have a lot of red paint lol.

Tomorrow I pull the motor and start work on the front suspension.

Any way here are the pictures.
