1967 383 ~ "Which Came First" ~ The Barracuda or Dart GTS

-
Mr. DART67 My Dart Convert is a 69, was a GT 273 car, now becoming a 440-4speed console.
Dont let that give images of crazy tires and custom steering wheels..lol I am building this car to look "stock" as if Dodge actualy built one. Red lines exhaust manifolds and all.....

The book you pictured above was from November 67 so the 383 Darts had been out for 9 months by then. I would like to see a book dated before the first known 383 Darts were made to see what it says.

Jim,

There are no actual publication or copyright dates in the book.

The dates I am going by are in the Comparisons section of the book.

On the top right hand corner of pages 105 and 106.

"Manufactures' suggested retail prices (in effect November 25, 1966)"

Why would a 1967 "Training/Sales aid" book for 1967 models be printed in November of 1967 ? The 1968 models had already been introduced.

I have the black and white Press Photos from Dodge Public Relations for the 1968 Dodge Cars.

I sure wish I had a scanner so I could post them.

The Promo photos and press releases for the 1968 models have release dates from "ON or After 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 1967 to "ON or After September 10, 1967.

Photos and Release Dates

1968 Charger
For Release On or After 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 1967.

1968 Coronets
For Release On or After 7 A.M. Monday, September 4, 1967.

1968 Dart
For Release On or After 6 P.M. Friday, September 8, 1967.

1968 Polara
For Release On or After Sunday, September 10, 1967.

1968 Monoco
For Release On or After Sunday, September 10, 1967.

The photos all state that the cars "will go on display in Dodge dealerships on September 14th"

Therefore I believe this book was printed in late November or early December of 1966.

Herb

OK Herb, I see that you edited your original post to change the date from 67 to 66. I understand what CRS and dyslexia is so now it makes sense.:bootysha:

1967 Barracuda 383 'Performance Test'

The owner has all the original parts for it, engine, trans, fender tag, maybe even the build sheet too. I haven't seen those parts in person besides the engine. I believe it was his first car/mopar and was running years ago but it rusted to the point that they parked it & pulled the parts from it. It still sits outside the way those pictures were taken (~3 years ago).

They did make A body big block cars in the convertible body style, but 383 only. Mr Norm was talking to me about a 440 A body convertible 4 speed that he wished he had made and always wanted to.
:) 440-4 speed drop top...mmmmmmm
