1969 340 motor factory color?

I see a 340 for sale on Ebay. The seller states the motor has never been worked on. It is painted a green or blue-green color. I thought a 1969 340 motor was originally painted orange or red? What's up?

turquoise would be correct for '69,red would be '68
looks pretty clean on the bottom and maybe a '70 water pump?

Yes, that color was used for short time. I just cleaned some up on a 340 timing cover.... That particular motor is being sold by the Schumacher people, who make the mounts, etc.

My '69 340 was always, and still is, the bright blue color. Not the turquoise, as that was never used on any 340. Some early ones were red, and a lot of them were Hemi orange.

That's incorrect, sir. The 1969 340 did use turquoise.

I have come to believe that 69 340s came painted whatever color happened to be near the engine painters on any given day. The first several 69 340 cars I worked on were red. I thought Mopar just continued with red in 69. Then I worked on a few that were blue (like 318s) and then orange and a few more blue of various colors, medium and dark. Also a few that would classify as turquois (a bit of green to the light blue like on the link above) but not the big block turquois. I never worked on a 69 340 that was the same color as the big blocks. So I think the reason for all of the questions related to 340 engine color in 69 is because they actually came in various colors. I worked on a lot of 68 and 69 340 cars and recall only red for 68 but who knows what on the 69s.

When i pulled my 340 out of the donor it was turquoise and it has never been apart, it was cast in late 68 for a 69 car.

I can believe the 'any color' thing... the original intake on our /6 was brush painted on the top and sides only, no paint on the bottom! Chrysler was not known for the best finish quality in that era.
