1972 Dodge Colt

Well I got it off.
Found a small burr, rough spot on crank and the inside of the damper.
It hasn't been hunting around, or chattering.
I guess I caught something rough last time I put it back on.
It was a ***** getting off with the interference and the limited room I have.
Need to address that and not let it happen again.
Finally into the chain and timing guts.
2022 Refresh (1).jpeg

Been a while.
Current progress pictures.
The cam is located right per the cam card.
It was a few degrees advanced so we will see how it performs now.
Going to recheck valve clearance, should be better on Intake with cam moved back.
Going with Head Studs to clamp the head down.
Electronic Distributor is back with new lean burn top plate and pickup.
Mechanical advance is now set for 24 degrees.
Going to start with 8 Initial and see how that works.

I re-degreed the cam, one more time.
I moved it back around 3 degrees.
Looking to kill a little bottom end and add a little intake clearance.

I found evidence of some cam walk in the timing chain cover.
I have a very good friend who machined a cam button from Delron.
Slips tight over the center cam bolt and has about .05 clearance to the timing cover.

Started making some brackets to mount the new Strange Disk Calipers.
This is the front prototype bracket mount to the spindle.
It will be nice to do a proper burnout with this addition.

I ground a couple cast iron lumps off the side of the block.
The last time I mounted the intake gasket these interfered with the gasket.
Also finished mounting the front brake calipers and attached the brake line.
I have to swap an engine in my son's civic, so the Colt is on the back burner for a couple of weeks.

And this picture showed up on facebook today.
My Colt getting ready to race a Camaro at KCIR around 1977-78.
Colt is in the far lane.

Yay, the Honda is done!
Going to get the Colt back tomorrow and get back on it.
I am waiting on the head porter to drop off my current head for a flow test.

Damn! That would have been awesome! Sorry Stan.
There's even build pictures and a video floating around. Someone went to great lengths to booger with the slant 6 guys. Ed Thompson (@805moparkid) and I researched it in depth and there's no early Hemi heads even close to the head bolt spacing of the slant 6. This was before I built my 331 and had the heads off. They aren't even close. dangit all.

Yea, that was a red herring for sure.
"piece of information that is, or is intended to be, misleading"

Now Robert Maw, FB name has his aluminum slant six head in work.
Along with his fix of the aluminum block.
It will be neat to see his head finished.

However back to my junk.
I have a few things kicking around to make a huge improvement in ET.
Not going to talk about that too much till it gets here.

Back where she belongs!

Bad news on the head, porter doesn't have a fixture for the small slant chamber size.
It overlaps the next chamber or head bolts and he can't seal the leak.
Sure was looking forward to the bad news.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions!
It will be in SW Missouri, but it will be attached to a dang-on Colt.
