This is my restoration thread for my '73 Duster that I bought for $650 back in February 2009. Just some information on the car, it's a 318 auto column shift. 8 1/4 rearend. Factory power front disc brakes and power steering. Was originally Y6 Gold with a full black vinyl top and parchment interior. Pretty stock with the exception of a cam, headers and new Flowmaster exhaust. I bought it from the original owner's grandson. This isn't going to be a full blown resto...it's going to be more of a bunch of upgrades as money allows. Now some of you may ask, why did you call it "Project Iron Maiden". Well because my favorite band is Iron Maiden and I plan on getting personalized plates for it saying "IRN MDN". So first I'll start with some pictures of when I got it.....

At it's first show on June 27th beside my friend Tyson's Valiant. The day before the show, I installed the fender trim I bought from 70DartMike and painted the air cleaner orange. I didn't say but if you guys haven't noticed, my grandpa fixed the bubbly sail panels and patched the front floor pans for me....

My goal for the winter is to pull the engine and paint it. I'm also wanting to get a new 4bbl carb and intake for it. I plan on getting the front seat redone, new carpet, new headliner, painting the dash black, installing my Tuff wheel, new dash pad, new windshield, all new weatherstripping and brand new wiring harnesses just to name some stuff. I would like to get it painted but I know it needs body work and I want to drive the car to my graduation ceremony & prom at the end of May and I have a feeling it wouldn't get done in time. When it does get painted, it's going to look exactly like this (except with my parchement interior)...

Also, I have another spare hood here so I've decided to get a dual snorkel hood scoop and install that on the spare hood (and get it painted black for when I get the car painted). So whenever I want a change in looks, I can swap hoods!

Here's the newest picture of my Duster...there's something about the picture that I really love...

You got a great deal on your car. Nice to see another young gun fixing one up. Did you help your grandpa do the work? He did a good job on the repairs and paint matching. Keep up the good work and let us know how it progresses.....What plans do you have for the Charger?
Good luck,
Tom.

nice bike!!

j/k.

Very nice car and great to see another one being restored vice crushed.

Welcome and nice to see another 73 being done.
You might check out my 73 in progress this forum under "birth of the blue missile"

Nope, I didn't help him with the sail panels. I was at my house while he did the sail panels. However I helped him with the floor pans. The Charger....well, that's a whole 'nother story. Check out my cardomain for the story on that...www.cardomain.com/id/chargercody

Hey Cody nice job so far! I did the same thing to my air cleaner. Sometimes I wish I had a 318 in my Dart just because I could use all the 340 parts I have from my Challenger, but I hope to build a pretty sick slant six. Are you going to add a 4bbl?

Looking good :cheers:and I bet you can't wait to get the intake and carb under the hood.=P~
What size Double Pumper is that 69bronzeT5?

That's a whole lotta car for $650!! Dig that Charger too. You like Maiden's early days with Paul DiAnno?

Cody, I just checked out your car domain site. WOW!! You got some cool old muscle there kid!! You got your hands full with that '70 Coronet, nice green carpet in that one.lol

Thanks guys! Yeah, I love all Iron Maiden.....I'm just not a huge huge fan of the Blaze days.

Amen Bronze! Iron Maiden is my absolutely favorite band!!!

I have listened to Maiden since I was ten! No joke it has kept me out of trouble many times...staying in listening to Maiden with my buddies instead of out causing problems. I actually like Blaze's solo work more then his Maiden stuff.

Back on topic though, I am eager to see pics of your Duster once you get the rims on there. Minus the color, our Dusters are identical...all the way down to those "lovely" hubcaps:angry7:
