Checking Back in!!!! The engine is a 340!!!. I got the duster up and running and decided to sell it. The reasoning behind it is I got orders for Korea (Army). Of course as soon as the guy gets here to buy the car it wont start. All I did was drive the car about 250 feet and parked it now it wont start. I previously changed the starter and it still didn't start. I messed around with some wires, just basically touch them to see if any were lose and it started. It stayed starting every day in my garage until after I moved it 250 feet. I just bought a new battery put it in and nothing. It gets power but wont crank. ANY IDEAS or HELP!!! I think the car is not wanting me to sell it?

wont crank...will it crank if you jump it at the starter relay switch..?

check make sure the neutral safety switch plug on the trans is on...

with key on...check for voltage at ballast resistor..coil and so on..

my 73 duster would just go dead...no power at all...connector in the bulkhead on firewall were corroded..

You know how to jumper the starter relay? You tried that?

This a stick or auto? Might be troubles with starter relay, neutral safety switch, or clutch safety switch

Does it have the reset for the seat belt interlock? Look under the hood for a box like a horn relay with a reset button. Read this:

If you have this, best thing is bypass it. Read those threads

You can jumper the relay by simply using a screwdriver to jumper the two largest bare terminals on the relay.

Its an automatic shifter. Thanks for the prompt replies guys!!!!!!!

Hold key to "start." Work shifter from park to drive and back and listen for a click or "try" to crank. This would indicate adjustment, switch going bad, etc.

To start to run this down, ID the wire going down the firewall to the transmission from the starter relay. It is one of the small "push on" connectors on the starter relay. Remove that wire and clip that relay terminal to ground. See if it cranks, BE CAREFUL it will crank in any gear.

If not, leave that grounded, check the OTHER "push on" wire connection for power in "start."

I will try jumping the relay now. Im assuming you just put a screwdriver between the 2 bare Terminals. Then turn the key in the ignition?

I put the car in neutral and pressed the brake down still no start. I'm going to look under the hood for the seat belt relay box. I'm almost 100% certain those where deleted as the car was setup for racing in the past. Thanks again!!!!!!!

The car cranked and started when I held the screwdriver in place. It was enough to at least pull the car around the house and in the garage. So what would you suggest next?

THANK YOU 67Dart273 !!!!!!!!!

Well if you actually want to fix this you need some basic tools. Test lamp, multimeter, and at least a couple of alligator clip leads. I've already told you some of the test. You have to "run this down." These are a simple circuit, and simple to troubleshoot

What have you actually checked?

Went to AutoZone this morning and got a new starter relay and put it in and now it cranks and starts. THANKS!!!!!!! Now time to figure out the carburetor issue.
