273 4 bbl Question

Nope. The '64 radiator support panel has a cutout to accommodate a 19"-wide radiator core with narrow brackets on each side. Starting in '65, the cutout was horizontally enlarged to accommodate a 22"-wide radiator core. Slant-6 cars without HD cooling still got a 19"-wide core, with a wide bracket on the RH side to reach from the RH edge of the core to the RH edge of the core support cutout. V8 cars got a 22"-wide core with a narrow bracket on each side. A '64 radiator won't bolt into a '66, unless you can figure out a way to bolt the RH bracket to thin air.

Way too long ago to confirm or deny. Also in the move, I have misplaced my "numbers" books. I have also learned not to count on absolutes with Ma Mopar. I might still have the radiator, I have them all converted to 3 core.

I have a 273 engine with quite a story. The block was casted in February 17 of 1964. The engine was assembled in February 29, 1964. It' a power pack engine too. It has a special riveted tag attached to the block. It was a stock motor in an early August produced Formula S Barracuda.

Here are what the 273 Charger/Commando 10.5:1 pistons look like that came in the 4 BBL motors.

Clif of Az. :coffee2:

The 4bbl pistons are domed, with 2 cutouts each. The flattop 2bbl pistons have 4 cutouts. This is because the 4bbl pistons are "handed" -- the 2bbl pistons can be fitted either way.

That's cool Ulf.

Here is the August 1964 GT Red Weenie. (Special program car)

This was a 1964 GT convertible but built in summer of 1964 with the performance parts.
The press cars (for magazine review for 1965 were built in ~ July 1964. 1965 cars hit the dealerships on Sept. 21, 1964 for sale, and production began after change over in the summer of 1964. So the HiPo parts were out there. I have the 1966 catalog, which lists the individual parts- cam, exhaust, valve covers, rockers, springs, etc. with estimate of horse power gain

One cool thing is that they ran the heater hoses as HiPo hoses (4-barrel-1965), attached to the inner fender, as per the FSM. The Air cleaner is the HiPo CA type? With the hoses reversed. Push button for 1964. Console shift 1965, both cable shift ball and trunion.

L45
273 v-8 Dart GT convertible bright red with tachometer
(So the third digit in the VIN is 4 (1964) or 5 Model year?)

They do list a 235 hp 273 v-8 but engine code is 31 for 1964. (52?) AB

http://www.blight.com/~tony/abody/vindecode.html

So the VIN is L44510####(# = plant sequence number)?
