I purchased a car with a 273 2 barrel.

Intake P#2536559 Heads are P#2465315

If my research is correct I have early 64/65 heads? and 66-69 Intake which are not comapatible?

You do have the early heads (64 and 65) and they are not compatible with 66 and newer intakes. My book doesn't list that intake. It must be a preformance 4 barrel intake so it won't bolt down.

There are members that have modified the parts by drilling ,grinding, and using tapered washers. It does work and you can use your own judgement there.

It is actually a 2 barrel intake and it was bolted down and appeared normal? But only the end bolts had washers and not tappered

I was tearing down because I thought I had a blown head gasket , after a few minutes water out the exhaust and really rough idle (It did have vacuum leak at intake as well) especially in D, but drove really good above idle. No Water in Oil and no oil in radiator, was thinking maybe it was intake issue.

Intake off , rockers off, push rods out. Are the 273 rockers and pushrods direct bolt on with 318 heads?

I've got it tore down this far might as well take heads off and have a look. I also have a couple sets of 318 heads. and Motors. Its decision time.

appreciate the replies to my questions

273 rockers work on 318 heads. Before I say yes, what 318 heads do you hsve.

I have seen 315 heads with the later bolts and angles. As a matter of fact I have a pair on the shelf. What wrench fits the intake bolts? 1/2 or 9/16? What car are you working on?

would it be obvious if I were to just bolt a manifold on for test? I have a torker 340 laying around somewhere and have a Couple Performers which I would like to use.

If you're using the '64-6 exhaust manifolds, you would need to do some modifications to use the 302 casting (or any later 318 smog heads) to keep from breaking the driver's side manifold. Best done by spacing out the manifold enough rather than grinding metal off the head for clearance. You might break into a water passage. You will lose a bit of compression using any of the later open chamber heads too. If your 315 casting heads are in good shape, I think I'd just keep using them until you need to do a complete rebuild. If you're set on installing a 4bbl intake, I'd find a pair of 920 heads (which match the 315's compression ratio-wise) that will accept the later style intakes. You will have many more options for intakes that way. Then you get to figure out what to do with your kickdown linkage

3/8-16 is the 66 up bolt style that take a 9/16 wrench. You can use any 66-67 273, 318, 340, 0r 360 four barrel intake manifold.
test fit a Torker 340 (putting a Performer on) fits like a glove. Now to finish disassembling and get the heads freshened up
