What vehicles were the best source for a 318 roller engine ? What years, what bodies, etc. Did 1985 318 from Ramchargers use a roller block? was told this but do not know it to be a fact. If the 1985 Ramcharger 318 is a Roller block,.. Would the bosses be drilled for the spiders? if not, is this something that I could do myself ?

I got one from a 85 Chrysler 5th. Avenue. It also had #302 casting heads. I wish I had kept the tranny. I think it was a lock up 904. Sorry, I can't answer your other questions. tmm

I believe the cars came out before the trucks by some 3 years or so.

Best Source? Junkyard or Craigslist

Roller Cam 318s started production in 1985.....but its a toss up to find one in a 85' Model...

Start with

1986/1987-1992....

D100, Ramcharger 4x4, B100, Chrysler 5th avenues.

318-2bbl

Engines are BLACK ONLY.

If you find a 89, 90, 91 Ramcharger 4x4 150LE.....and if it has Holley Projection fuel injection on it.....It MAY be, a Pre-Magnum Roller Cam 360.
Look for the engine emissions tag to say 1989., 1990, or 1991 - 5.9L

If you find a Roller Cam 360....thats the junkyard winner.....get IT. It will have 308' Casting heads.

I like Magnums.....In 1998-2001 Dodge 1500 4x4s :D

(but I have a hard enough time telling my Local parts stores 5 different vehicles to get a bill of parts for one Dodge Dart Sport)

Magnums have cool cylinder heads, and serpentine belts....and require a special intake manifold like a Vortec Chevy....no Mechanical Fuel Pump Provision....and camshafts cost more for one....

I could go on and on...

Would a 1985 " Roller block" have the bosses pre-drilled for the lifter retainer (spider retainer) ??
