That cats face gives the exact facial expression that I use on a lot of threads I read now .
My compliments to you if you created it,,,and if not,,,,I still send my compliments for you discovering it .

Take a LA 318 put a Holley on it it does nothing but drink gas
Put a cam in it with the factory heads it does nothing
put headers and duals on a 318 it does next to nothing
then you need to get out the checkbook don't you? to buy specialty pistons and heads etc? make it a "stroker?"
but the price of a 340 or 360 is off the table? c'mon. man...

but yet you'll ask "what can i do with a 318 to make power..."but you don't want to hear it...its just odd to me...

maybe the word "Power" is misunderstood?

Beers ago I owned a 72 318 Dumpster. Edelbrock 650cfm 4bbl Performer manifold, Hooker headers, RV cam, steel timing chain, 904 with a shift kit, & a 8 3/4 rear end with 3:55 gears..... Chirped the tires every time she shifted into 2nd gear under heavy throttle. Tank of an engine, parts everywhere, & cheap, not a trailer Queen worth multiple 1000's of dollars, but Massive Grins per mile every time I drove it..


318s are just dandy lil mills to have fun with. Throw a lil Nitrous on her, & bring on your 340....unless u r running Nitrous as well LOL!!

i take way more satisfaction in hitting the key and it starting up every.single.time. over something temperamental that wants to turn a cross town trek into a drama filled afternoon in bumper to bumper traffic.

I drive my slow car slow, (no choice), so my slow eyeballs can see all the smiles of appreciation as my lil Fart Dart, Leaning Tower of Power, cruises by...:lol:

LOL. Went to buy a HP 360 car in the 70's, but passed because my 273 was faster.
Problem is most think there's one preferred powerband type and obviously a 273 powerband suits you and your driving style, you might be an minority or who knows more might enjoy similar if they had a chance :)

LOL! If someone, who knows what they are doing, builds a 318 and a 340 using the same heads, compression ratio, cam, and induction you would not be able to tell the difference. Guaranteed! The same goes for a 273 and 360.

It all depends on what you want, what body style, what drive train, and what you are willing to put up with. I have enough experience with so many makes and engines through the years to know what they will do, what I like, and how I use them. One of my best friends has a very nice 64 Polara Max Wedge clone, he loves the 66 Formula S with the 273 and how it runs.
 
I had plenty of doggy 70s doggy 360s that couldn't get out of their own way any faster than a 318 could in the otherwise same vehicle. But I spent a lot less money on gas with the 318. Alot. And it didn't take me any longer to get where I had to go than if id had a 360. And 340s?;Those have always been made of unobtanium around here. So Ive never been able to mess with one. 340s never come up for sale and when they do they have a buy in that's many times the cost of a 318 or 360.... And that's before machine work and parts cost. So I'll happily stick with my 318s .
I am building a 360 mag for a truck that will work like a truck but only because o already have it laying around at the moment

Id so much rather my current daily driver had a 318 in it over the 4.7POS that it does have. It would definitely pull my camper better if it did

As far as 318s,I cant understand why someone who doesnt want to lay out $$$ for a good starting point in a 340/ 360 would spend the $$$ that it takes modding a 318 then gloat like its something special. Thats all. Oh and get a sense of humor and learn to detect sarcasm... :thumbsup:
i considered rebuilding my old 255 4.2. Who else has one of those kicking around?
it was in my first vehicle ever. 1981 ford tbird. sunroof and all. it's still parked outback. the car is keeping the engine dry.

I honestly considered using it for a powerplant in my sand blaster. right now it's a manual 4 speed with an inline 6 cylinder ford. I'd love to convert it to an automatic. that why when it reaches 200PSI, the throttle cuts back and the torque converter takes the slip sending power to the air compressors.

I have 4 big jobs i've been putting off, but given the turn-around of money, i might take a week or two and get stuff swapped and make some easy money. It be kinda of a pointless personal note that my 1st old V8 still makes me a dollar.

My sand pit is about the size of a football stadium. :D :D We've been pulling material out of it for YEARS.

Some of you have alot of nerve coming in here telling who what and why and how etc. as if you all know...all I have ever said was a 318 isnt a performance engine and it takes too much getting it there I'm not the only one who feels this way here. Ill admit I have been straight to the point and people dont like that but i find it to be a rather efficient way of communicating. Now you can call me names(hater) boss me around (whatever its the internet) but my opinion is worth just as much as any of yours ($.02) :lol:
