Whelp, installed my new 360 and rebuilt 727 summer and ran for the rest of summer while I tweaked and tuned, got a few hundred miles on it. Did the tranny myself (first TF tranny I've rebuilt) and she held up, leaked a little but stopped after some miles and usage. Also did the HEI conversion, definitely a must-do. Goal of this car is "retro daily driver" with the caveat being dry weather only, cold is ok.....used a laser thermometer at work (diesel tech.) and she puts out 101 degrees to the floor vents. Build details below, Currently shopping for the shims/spacers to correct valvetrain geometry, got a pushrod checker to order correct length once heads done. Pulling heads to mill the intake side and measure the combustion chamber CC's along with quality inspection. Then slap it all back together, re-torque the transmission bands after I replace filter. I've got a laundry list of things to do before spring, but we're progressing forward!
-Did most myself....except had the shortblock done at a shop in town and the heads milled elsewhere long time ago.
-1976 Mopar LA 360 bored out .030, no machining on the head surface
-Head engine & intake surfaces shaved .040, intake 2.02, exhaust 1.60, "stiffer springs and modern valve seats"
-Camshaft, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, 268/272, Lift .460/.480
-Holley 650DP
-Edelbrock Dual Plane Intake
-Hooker Headers, exhaust exits in front of rear wheels
-Factory 8 3/4 rear w/3.73 gears (SBP)
-Factory radiator, never overheated even in the 100+ temps of August (outside Spokane WA)
-Converted to floor shift
Pictures of the test/tune phase and now in the garage with the centerlines I was able to get to fit! Should I just make a thread on my build as a whole? What are your thoughts on this combo once she's all tuned and broken in?
