Im Thinking about putting a Push button in my 65 cuda 273 (not Commando). Original slapstick 3 speed. What do i need in order to install it? I Just found out they had push button start in that year so i was wondering if i could get your advice? What parts do i need? thanks

Why would you want to do that??? :banghead:

The cables are getting harder to find, Imperial Services no longer takes orders, but sells to other warehouses. :violent1:

BTW: That also includes the cables for your original shifter in your car already. :banghead:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or you'll end up like Michael Jackson..... :glasses7:

(referring to all of his plastic surgery....)

Bad information.1964 was the last year of the push button in the Barracuda. 65 had a cable shift trans but the shifter was on the floor. Way more work than its worth if you could even find all the parts in good working order.

I think there's a misunderstanding here. A-bodies did not have pushbutton start. '64 and earlier had pushbutton transmission selectors. You weren't born back then to know the features cars had, so the confusion is understandable.

My bad...a little clarification is in order. If you are talking push button ignition then no ..never had em...if your talking about push button shifter then what was said before . I guess anything is possible but I think you are getting way ahead of yourself with the car. This is a natural thing to do.

wow now i get it lol thanks a lot for breaking it down.

I'll add that a push-button start would be fairly easy, at least if you still must turn the key switch to the "run" position. But, nothing bolt-in, you would have to design it. If you want like current cars where you just push a button and it goes to both "run" and "crank", that is do-able too, but harder. If you want to add an RF security key like new cars, you would have to find something after-market built for that.

my first 65 had a push button starter, it was under the dash. Turn key to run and push the heavy push button to crank..ignition was broken! I could even do it with the motor running :-)

Push button, and paddle shifting! Have to adjust selector length to use this GM TH350 kit but it could work.

DasJeep,

Ok Bud here is the history of the 64 and 65 cars, I have both so I know...

64 Push-button 2 cable shift, one for park, one for shift selection

65 Column or console 2 cable shift, one for park, one for shift selection

66 Column or console Rod&Bell Crank style shifting... this type transmission was 66-forever

Now Imperial services does make a conversion kit if you ever go to a 66-up style transmission, they sell a kit that you can convert your original shifter to a single cable (Like B&M and Lokar)

I just ordered a conversion kit going to keep the stock shifter...

Let me know if you have anymore questions...
