67 Barracuda weight

-
Looks like factory weights are similar for Dusters, last time I had my '70 Duster on a scale it was 3480 with me in it and about 60 lbs. of tools in the trunk and a half-tank of gas. So minus all that it would be around 3200-3300? My car has a B-body 8 3/4", big heavy 15" Rallyes and fat tires, factory undercoating, power steering, and a big 50-lb battery which will be relocated to the trunk. Engine is a 5.9 Mag with Eddy aluminum heads and intake but I haven't had it weighed since getting the current engine installed.

I agree find another scale to double-check that does seem pretty high. Although that factory A/C setup is around 100 lbs. with the big-*** compressor, evaporator and condenser, drier, and all the lines. A 727 is a decent bit heavier than a 904 as well. What rear end is in the car?

A trick you can also do is measure the front and rear separately to get an idea of weight distribution, just drive the front wheels on first, get a weight, then drive over till just your rear wheels are on the scale and measure again.
The rear end is an 8 3/4 sure grip with factory drum brakes

The winner is who ever guessed 3340 pounds.
I drove the car today and went to our county certified scale at the Road and Bridge dept, which was just certified by the State of MO 2 weeks ago. Two blocks from the scale I stopped and fill it with fuel. The car weight 3440 pounds with me out of the car.
So minus the fuel 16 gallons at 6.3 pounds per gallon or roughly 100 pounds off the total weight equals 3340 pounds. Close enough for me.
The person who guessed closest to 3340 can pick up their prize at the door on their way out.
Thanks much to all who participated.

What is the point of subtracting the weight of the fuel? Isn't gas kinda necessary?

Interesting point. When the guy for the converter is asking the questions, does he ask your weight fully clothed or naked?

Dealers choice
I will include the weight of the fuel in the converter calculations.
In the real world I dont think 100 pounds is going to make a difference.
But then again I could be wrong
I know the car hooks up more with a full tank hanging out there past the rear axle.

All this has been interesting to watch. Reminds me that when I get my car on the road, I will be looking for a scale, rather three scales and will average them. Thanks for asking the question.

That would be 3390 with a half tank, I guessed 3410 with a half tank

So I protest, I was closer. I'm not leaving til I get the prize. In the meantime, I'm thirsty.
OK you are very close with your guess.
Next time you are in Lake of the Ozarks, MO please stop in and pick up your major award.
Until then kick back and have one of those famous Canadian beers.
Congratulations

Years late but adding to the data
1967 Fastback without me in the car
Before complete tear down and rebuild here are my numbers:
5.9 Magnum with Iron Heads, M1 Aluminum Intake
46RH Transmission
8 3/4 Suregrip
Power Single Piston Discs up front, drums out back
Manual Steering
Heater, no AC
Full Interior with Center Console and Bucket Seats
Approx 10 gallons of gas based on what I drained out

Weight using 4 corner scales at a road race shop: 3479lbs

That sounds about right to me. My '69 Dart with, SB, aluminum heads, 6-pack intake, aluminum radiator, headers, full exhaust, tubular front suspension with Willwood disc's, 4-speed, scattershield, 8 3/4 with drum rear brakes, triangulated 4-link, steel wheels weighed 3420 with me in it (140) and half tank of gas.

An old post revived.

Let me just add that shipping weights are for the lightest, least well equipped models. I.e., Barracuda V8 shipping weight would be for a 273 or 318 (depending on year), three speed manual trans, single exhaust, 7 1/4 read, no PS or PB or A/C. At least I think that's right.

Anyhoo, my 67 Barracuda notchback, 360/727, 8 3/4 rear, aluminum intake, iron heads, TTI headers with 2.5 inch X-pipe exhaust, manual steering, manual disc brakes, no A/C, bench front seat with fold-down armrest, 15 inch Cragar mags, front and rear sway bars, all factory glass and trim - weighs 3400 lbs with a full tank of gas, w/o me in it.

My 65 Barracuda, similarly equipped, except 340 4-speed and aluminum heads (plus bucket seats), weighs 50 lbs less.

I was at a drag strip quite a few years ago, weighed my 65 Barracuda, someone came by and said, "Wow, that's heavy!" I thought it was pretty light (my 67 Hemi Charger weighs 4100 lbs), but what do I know?

My 69 Charger (440/727, alum intake, steel road wheels (rears widened), subframe connectors, no A/C, full interior/console/etc, power windows, PS, PB) weighed a svelte 4260 #'s without me and with 1/2 tank of fuel. OOooofff...

I just wish I knew what the avatar weighs. Every time I'm at a track and ask to weigh it, I get the same response: "We don't have anybody here to open up the scales." So I guess I just keep guessing it at about 3200-3300.

My '67 Notchback weighed in just over 3200 without a driver.
Some magazine test weights I've listed on this page about halfway down.
