are they the correct bolts? if not are the heads 'thicker' which caused contact? just thinking out loud.
neil.
They are the bolts that were sent by PTC for their converter, they were close but never hit before, and the car has been driven on the street alot and the track, over 500 miles are currently on the car/engine set up

ok. did you torque the flexplate to crank' bolts correctly. i ask as i've had several come loose on customers cars that were torqued to spec. i do them up fu**ing tight and never had an issue, lol.
neil.

Oh yeah I torqued them and they are ARP bolts too. Think I even used red lock tight on them too

You sure those are ARP? All the ARP bolts I have say ARP right across the head. Also arp are always black-oxide chromoly or brite SS and all the flex plate bolts I have are short head 12-point. Just saying…

I meant the flex to crank were arp, those are grade 8 from PTC

Well found where or the flex plate bolts were hitting and another surprise  . The flex plate to TQ bolts were hitting a oil gally plug which was sticking out just a tad and dont think it walked since it was still in there deep, so replacing the flex plate, will order a B&M sfi and just to double check pulled the oil pan and found the other mount bolt for the gear drive sitting in the front cover so that vibrated loose, cleaned threads on the bolt and block and red lock tighted it back in. Think that was more the tick sound, but will just get rid of the 440 source flex since they arent part of the sfi program anymore so good times.

Oh it had something alright lol new flex plate has been ordered and gaskets. Next pay check oil and filter then the new coolant.
I chastised you for pulling the engine out for a tic. Now I look like an *** because you basically saved the engine by doing it. Well done. That bolt from the gear drive coulda done some damage.

Did you use loctite on that bolt the first time? At one time I used a stud and nut but I forgot why I went back to the bolt.

It's all good my friend. Yeah think that bolt was more of the tick than the flex plate, was thinking the crank gear was picking it up and tossing it. Luckily not damage done to any of the gears.

It's interesting when you call a company like ARP bolts and ask if they have a 7/16-20 bolt, 12 pt head flat and around 3/4" long and they say no and do some google searching and find they do just for a chevy v6  so ordered a set to see if those will work for more clearance from the flex to block for the converter bolts. While waiting decided was a good time to make a fan shroud to help cool better and I am changing over to the VP racing coolant instead of regular coolant see if that helps.

Also had a big dumbass moment and realized I plumbed the ic water line wrong. Still going to get a 5gal tank with a rule2000 pump and change it out as soon as I can afford to buy one.

Any one interested and have a 8 bolt PTC converter, these are a perfect replacement and a thinner head for more clearance. Only bummer part is this is a pack of 6 so order 2 of them. Speedway motors has them for $14 ea.
