Been along time since i changed the motor mounts, forgot how tight everything is in there! I decided to spend the big bucks and go with Schumacher poly-loc's, (FYI: you have to git on a waiting list!, I'm still waiting for a call back letting me know they're in.)

If your suggestion is; "bring it to a mechanic with tiny strong hands" trust me, that crossed my mind yesterday as i was struggling to get a wrench in there and see if i could loosen the bolts. But I think i can do it, radiator's out so i have a little extra room in the front.

(the car's on jack stands and front tires removed for extra wiggle room)

This is what i'm thinking i might have to do:
1) remove the lower bolts on the pancake.
2) jack the engine up w/block of wood on a floor jack (FROM THE OIL PAN?)to give me more room for a wrenches, and so i have enough room for leverage.
3) REMOVE THE BRACKETS FROM THE ENGINE? (I can't see a way to get that top pancake nut off)
4) Hope i have enough clearance to get them out! AND back in!
5) seriously thinking about buying a compact, mini impact wrench ands some swivel attachments!

Am I thinking correctly?

Did you try the Jack under the oil pan method yet? I have a 68 cuda and the freeze plug rusted behind the passenger engine mount so I about to try exactly what you are talking about. Let Me know the outcome, thanks

sorry , didn't see your post till today.
I have not tried it yet, still waiting for motor mounts! Dude that makes them for Schumacher is way behind.
- a mechanic friend suggested a large chunk of wood, say 2"x10" x 10" so the weight is distributed around the outer edges of the pan, i was thinking of notching for the drain plug too.

you may have did your thing already, let me know if you had good luck, or if it was a bad idea.
Thanks,
Dan

PS: (if you didn't already buy the freeze plugs), Go with the Brass ones!

I got the car set up on jacks and wheels of but not sure what to do with the trans linkage that I will be able to put back correctly, well I should say adjusted right and what is needed to remove. Also It doesn't seem like there is enough room to be able to hit the freeze plug in when the mount is removed. Also, do both mounts have to be removed first or because I only need to do the one side to just get the motor running. I plan on rebuilding the motor in the future but I want it to be able to run just for movability. Any thoughts

sounds like a tough one, I'm a carpenter...not a mechanic...I take pictures of everything before i take them apart, (and even during), so i know the steps to put it back correctly.

I remove the 3 bolts attaching the bracket to the block. Biscuit mount and bracket go out and back in together. Sure I have to use a block of wood and jack the engine up a little bit. I don't recall disconnecting anything other than neg' battery cable.

OK, cool RedFish, thanks!
