For all you guys that voted 904 I would like to know how you are bolting them in to a V-8 car this is a Slant Six trans bell and all. If you were going to for for the baby unit your choice would be 998 or 999 but the internals are different between these two. I vote 727 for street performance. More durable for pulling hills and extra weight like the wife, cooler and chairs to the shows.

Not to sure what you are talking about. They made a lot of V8 bell 904's.

i have a 727 with a shift kit and 2500 stall in my 340 powered 69 cuda and i love this tranny i blew the original 904 and i would never go back to another.the 727 is one of the best trannys chrysler ever built=P~
My daughter blew a fresh stock 904 once with a /6, but obviously there is a way to build them to live.
But I have always been a 727 guy, and have one in my car now.

After reading this thread, I kind of wish I hadn't tossed all of those 904s over the years now. I know I found a huge difference when I went from a 727 to a 'glide years ago. But it had a much higher low gear, plus a trans brake. That was before they came out with the tranny brake for the 727s.

It appears there is almost that much of a difference in a 904, from the input on here.

727 , went through 4 904 , 2 were built and they still went bad . none of my 727 ever went bad , they can take a beating and just about all the HP you throw at it . Besides you already have the 727 , why go and buy a 904 and spend more to make it almost as strong as a 727 ?
