Hello,

Gents, I am starting the build up of a 408 stroker engine and we are looking to get around 500 hp and about 600 ft/lb of torque. Course this is going to be with +-75 shot of nitrous. What we are looking is if the 904 can handled this amount of torque or should we go with the 727.

Thank you for your input.

Stock 904 won't last long. A beefed-up 904 will but will cost $$$. Then again, a junkyard 727 will get fragile with that sort of power.

You'll have to do quite a bit of upgrading to a 904 for it to live under those circumstances but it can be done. Just not cheap. Won't take alot of upgrades to make a 727 hold up so it'd be cheaper in the long run.

As far as always loosing 2 tenths with a 727 that's not always true. There are alot of factors involved. I remember reading a comment on here a couple yrs. back where a fellow went to a 727 and only lost 1 tenth. It is still a loss but not huge.

Thanks for all the input...

I was looking at JVX transmissions, I have heard they can built some good transmissions for about $1500. What do you guys think or suggest...

there are plenty of 904s going in the 10s out there. built right it will be fine.

I agree with Joe,built right the 904 WILL last in an a-body i'm on 3 seasons now with mine behind a 500h.p. 416 and then a 400 h.p. 360,going to have it redone this offseason just for peace of mind, lots of wheel up launches and hard track time on it..and if you race alot weight is important or lack of,the 727 is heavier then the 904..

got a 69 barracuda 360 running 10s...and a 71 dart 360 in low 11s...both using 904s with just good clutches/steels and bands..plus front drum spring kit...probably less then 300 bucks total in parts...and the spring kit is a one time purchase.

barracuda trans has 4 seasons of racing...dart trans has 3 seasons of racing and both a being used with a tranzact transbrake.

What will be the parts recommended to upgrade in the 904 to handle that amount of torque, besides having it upgrade to manual type and with transbrake.

Yes I like the 904 as well being lighter than the 727, I just want to make sure I upgrade it right
